Your Georgetown Hoyas are back in action Tuesday night, traveling to the Windy City to take on a familiar conference foe in the DePaul Blue Demons.

DePaul enters this game on the back of an 86-77 win over Xavier on Saturday, a performance that showcased the potential of Chris Holtmann’s squad in its second season. That win marked DePaul’s first conference victory of the 2025-26 campaign and was driven by a balanced offensive effort; six Blue Demons scored in double figures, a feat the program had not achieved in Big East play since 2008.

The main threat for the Blue Demons is CJ Gunn. The guard dropped 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting against Xavier and leads the team with an average of 14.4 points per game. He is complemented by Layden Blocker, who paces the offense with 3.7 assists per game, and NJ Benson, who controls the glass with 6.5 rebounds per game.

Defensively, DePaul has struggled at times, ranking 175th in defensive rating compared to Georgetown’s 81st, but their offense has been efficient enough to rank 110th nationally. They are especially dangerous when they share the ball, as evidenced by their assist numbers in the win over Xavier.

For Georgetown, this game represents a defining moment to stabilize the early conference season. After a high-scoring defeat to St. John’s on New Year’s Eve, Ed Cooley’s side will be looking to equal their conference record and secure a valuable road victory at Wintrust Arena.

Falling to 1-3 in the Big East would be a tough hurdle, especially considering the caliber of opponents on the schedule. The Big East may only have one ranked team, but every game is a battle.

All eyes will be on KJ Lewis, who has a career-best performance with 27 points against St. John’s. Lewis was a consistent force, leading the team in scoring (15.2 ppg) and steals (2.2 spg).

However, for the Hoyas to have success on the road, they will need a more complete effort on the boards. Who knows if Vince Iwuchukwu will see meaningful minutes tonight along with Julius Halaifonua in the frontcourt.

This Hoyas squad team is actually currently led by 6-foot-4 Caleb Williams (5.8 rpg). The defense is what it is, but controlling the paint against a DePaul team that just outpaced Xavier will be a deciding factor.

Additionally, Malik Mack’s distribution will be significant. He currently ranks fourth in the Big East with 4.7 assists per game. If Mack can exploit DePaul’s defensive deficiencies, return to playmaking and find open shooters like Lewis and Williams, the Hoyas should be well-positioned to leave Chicago with a win.

Good things happen when the Hoyas start a post feed.
