A pilot organ has called for the reconstitution of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) team, which is investigating the accident with Air India Flight AI-171 on 12 June 2025, in Ahmedabad.
In a letter addressed to the Minister of Civil Aviation, the Federation of Indian pilots (FIP) criticized the composition of the AAIB research team.
Accordingly, the Federation said that the Commission is lacking the experts on the subject, including pilots and rating engineers.
Moreover, the letter called the provisional findings of AAIB “painful” and “technically defective”.
Accordingly, the FIP said that the report does not take into account known vulnerabilities in motor control systems such as FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control), EEC (Electronic Engine Controller) and the TCMA architecture of the TCMA (Thrust Control Defunction Accommodation).
The FIA mentioned earlier failures in similar aircraft, including an All Nippon Airways Incident 2019 in Japan.
According to the provisional report, both engines close only four seconds after the rotation.
The switches of the fuel closing, had noticed the report, within a second of each other-I was on which the FIP is on is “human impossible” to reach manually.
Moreover, the FIP mentioned the interaction between pilots as not decisive and stated that there is no definitive evidence to suggest a deliberate crew.
The federation drawn attention to the wreck analysis, which revealed the fuel switches in the ‘Run’ position, which strengthens the theory of an automated closure instead of pilot interference.
In addition, the letter from the FIP investigators of the trivialization or ignoring of two critical failure modes that were previously marked by the aviation authorities – namely the sensor incorrect lectures in the thrust lever and non -commanded burn movement movement as a result of locking.
“The silence of the report on TCMA induced motor closures and systemic vulnerabilities in the design of Boeing is deeply disturbing,” the letter said.
“To suggest prematurely pilot error without excluding deeply documented technical malfunctions, not only misconduct the fault – it risks repeating the same research errors that have previously led to a disaster.”
