Outfield Oscar Mercado entered an opt-out clause in his Minor League contract with the Phillies, MLB Trade Rumors’ Steve Adams Reports. The Phils then released Mercado, which now returns to the Open Markt after the inking of his deal just at the start of spring training.
A veteran of five major League seasons, Mercado hit .237/.289/.388 about 973 record performances with the Guardians, Phillies and Cardinals of 2019-23. Most of his success is limited to his impressive smoking year 2019 in Cleveland. Mercado then had difficulty staying productive at the MLB level and has now been more than two years ago since his last performances in a big league match.
Subsequently, Minor League Stints with the Padres, Dodgers, Tigers and Phillies have no longer led to playing time in the Majors, although Mercados .252/.373/.385 Slash line over 378 PA in Triple-a Lehigh Valley is respectable in 2025 and he has 35 POGINGEN. This season, the right-handed Slagman also pureed left on the run of a .941 Ops, but was not called call-up because the Phils chose to stay with internal right-handed outfield options to landing Harrison Bader at the trade theadline.
It could be that Bader’s acquisition inspired Mercado’s decision to unsubscribe as his way to the Rooster of Philadelphia became even busier. The landscape after the dead schedule can mean more openings for the 30-year-old Mercado, if transactions have opened a few schedules and have created some teams that need the depth of the outfield.
