A year after delivering one of their worst seasons in recent times, the Philadelphia Union enjoyed their second trophy lift in club history.
The men of Bradley Carnell achieved the supporters’ Shield from 2025 on Saturday after winning a 1-0 home victory on New York City FC. The result also marked the 20th League victory of the Philadelphia season, a new franchise best for a single campaign.
The deposited finish of Mikael Uhre was everything the trade union needed to close the deal two weeks before MLS’s decision day.
Carnell, who was taken in the last season after Jim Curtin was fought as head coach, returned the trade union to play back to their strengths. Their 33 assigned goals are so far the least allowed in MLS, while their +24 target difference is the second best in the competition.
The 12 home wins of the Union so far in competition game are bound with Charlotte FC for the most in MLS. Their eight road victories this season are already a single season best for the team, and they have one more match to play.
Carnell, who had spent the last two seasons with St. Louis City SC, believed that the franchise would always be in the mix in the mix in 2025 thanks to their strong base.
“I always expect, because I have high standards, these players have high standards,” Carnell told Apple TV Postgame from Subaru Park. “It is a winning team, and it only had to be rediscovered, a little bit of the base just had to be tuned and polished.
“But man, these guys emptied the tank,” he added. “These guys are winners, I am so happy that they won today.”
The trade union is led by a dynamic attacking unit with the 16 league goals of Tai Baribo, the seven goals of Bruno Damiani and the 12 total target contributions from Mikael Uhre (six goals, six assists).
Some new faces such as midfielders Jovan Lukic Danley (2,530 minutes played, in third place on selection) and Danley Jean Jacques (three goals, three assists), and forward Milan Iloski (two goals, five assists) also chipped in important versions. Veteran leaders Kai Wagner and Jakob Glesnes anchored the backline, goalkeepers Andre Blake and Andrew Rick both have split time in the net, while Nate Harriel, Quinn Sullivan, Frankie Westfield of Homebround, all played a key roles in the team.
It has been a total team effort of the Union to take home their second trophy in club history and Carnell admitted that unlike Lafc, Inter Miami and Vancouver WhiteCaps, which Star International Players have, the trade union is in order with where they are.
“We are not the superstars. I am not the super coach. We don’t care, we like it this way. We are flying under the radar. We make mistakes. We grow, we learn and we will continue, and then we are 66 points later,” said Carnell.
The trade union will complete their regular seasonal schedule 2025 against Charlotte FC on October 18, knowing that the play -offs of the MLS Cup are around the corner.
