Phil Mickelson will not be involved with the Ryder Cup 2025 in an official capacity of the American team. But the six-time big champion couldn’t help, but get this week in the Ryder Cup mix. How? By pansing a top US Ryder Cup hopeful and PGA Tour Pro about his slow game.
The incident happened on the Tour Championship 2025, where a video from Patrick Cantlay that takes a long time, long to make a shot on the anger of East Lake Dew Mickelson.
Patrick Cantlay’s slow play disturbs Phil
Cantlay had a great week on the Tour Championship and sought the title to the end. But a 71 in the final round cost him a shot at the victory, and he could only watch while Tommy Fleetwood took the Fedex Cup title and the $ 10 million winner prize home.
Still, Cantlay completed T2 for its best result of the 2025 season. But it was not the good game of Cantlay that attracted the attention of viewers who watched both at home and Mickelson.
It was his icy pace.

Cantlay has long been one of the slowest players on the PGA Tour. But a specific aspect of his pace caused controversy at the Tour Championship: his foot hunters.
Before each shot, Cantlay goes up the ball and then shuffles both feet and cradles with his club. But he doesn’t do it a few times. Sometimes he sometimes waves dozens of times for a shot, reminiscent of Sergio Garcia early in the career.
And it is safe to say that Mickelson is not a fan. When Phil saw a video of one of Cantlay’s slower shots from East Lake on social media, he decided to enter.
In an answer to a message that complained about Cantlay’s slow game with the now deleted video, Mickelson Cantlay took the task. He wrote that Cantlay shuffled his feet “26 times” in the video and then joked that a person should be in “peak physical state” to tackle such an excessive movement on every shot.
“He shuffled 26 times with his right foot. 26 times before he hit him. 26 x 36 other shots are 936 foot shuffles. That is more calf increases than I will ever do. You also have to be in peak physical condition to do this daily, so let’s stop hatred and appreciate athletes,” Mickelson wrote.

American fans have offered Garcia famous on the US Open 2002 for his own Waggling issue. Ironically, it was played open in Bethpage Black, where Mickelson finished in second place to Tiger Woods and where the 2025 Ryder Cup is played. Cantlay hopes to be part of that team.
Interesting is that Mickelson and Cantlay have been in the same American team in the past. Cantlay played in his first Ryder Cup in 2021, where he went 3-0-1 to help the Americans secure the victory. Mickelson was one of us Captain Steve Stricker’s Vice Captains in Whistling Straits that week.

But Mickelson and Cantlay are in very different situations when it comes to the upcoming Ryder Cup 2025.
When Bethpage Black from New York was first announced years ago as a host for the Ryder Cup, many predicted that Mickelson would request the American team. But the Fall -Out of Mickelson’s involvement at Liv Golf put an end to the hope for that result.

Instead, Mickelson has become something of a pariah and he will probably not be at Bethpage during the Ryder Cup week.
Instead, 39-year-old Keegan Bradley will request the American team at the end of September. Cantlay failed to automatically qualify for the American team, so he must depend on receiving a Bradley captain to play in the team.
Bradley is expected to announce his six picks for the American team for the American team on Wednesday morning.
