The iconic ‘Hills Opera House’ located under the treetops of the Hills of Perth has been hit on the market, complete with a rising stone fireplace that ignited strong buyer’s interests.

Gained in a livable artwork, 280 Mundaring Road, Bickley, was designed and built in the 1990s by Perth architect Lynthorne Matthews.

The house on two levels is set at 7.1ha and has two bedrooms, three bathrooms and endless views of the bush are offered everywhere thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights, with the large bedroom mainly with a strip of windows.

Disapped by lush bushland, kangaroos and endless views of the Boomtop, this remote Perth Hills Sanctuary reminds of the luxury tree house.

Salesman Jo Skirrow from Earnshaws Real Estate – Darlington said that the sellers who were married at the building moved to Tasmania.

“The location is beautiful, as if you could pick up the house and place it somewhere else, but it is really built into the treetops and you have this, not really a suspended walk, but you have the walk around the deck in the middle, and it is almost as if it was meant to be there,” she said.

A front entrance in castle style opens to an extensive living space with curved ceilings, where a rising stone fireplace is literally central.

“It has burning on both sides and it is absolutely amazing,” said Mrs. Skirrow.

“It’s phenomenal … the photos do the right, but for the size it is impressive and you walk in, and it is just the biggest function in the entire main room.

“You look out over the valley, over the treetops and everything, then you have this huge fireplace.”

Wooden stairs recycled from a jetty, a wine cellar, inside spa with a view, a playroom or third bedroom, a lookout platform, a kitchen with Jarrah bank sheets and a central stone island bench and a three-phase driven shed were among the long list of highlights of the house.

The interest of the buyer is wide and varied, said Mrs. Skirrow.

“We have had a lot of interest from everyone – people with children, people who move from Europe – I think people just want to see if they can make it work for them,” she said.

“And I think the general consensus is yes, although it has only two bedrooms, it’s so customized, it’s so common, it’s just that wow factor.”

Mrs. Skirrow said she believed that it would suit a buyer who appreciated the architecture and wanted a home that made an impression.

The house is on the market for offers of more than $ 1.9 million.
