It is almost eight years since Petronas introduced his dynamic diesel-Euro 5 with Pro-Drive, and as you would expect, there have been revisions in the formulation since the euro 5-literation was introduced at the end of 2017, specifically in terms of his additive packages.
About how many, there have been a few, according to Petronas Fuel Technology Manager Mohamad Hafiz Abd Aziz. “The development of the additives is done every two years. We are not shouting about it, but we change it every two years,” he said.
The most recent update of the fuel has considerable profit, enough that the company can scream over it in quantifiable terms, something it usually never does, with an improvement of a fuel consumption of 20% and a cleanliness efficiency of 99% as leading points. These new aspects of the fuel were emphasized during special dynamic journeys that were powered by Dynamic Diesel Series -involvement in the media, where a site visit was involved in the Melaka Energy Park Facility of Melaka Energy Park, based in Sungai Udang, Melaka.

Science behind how the improvements were achieved was detailed. “We do a lot of tests when developing fuels, and these are not our own internal, but based on standard test protocols in the industry. Worldwide, when we develop the fuels, there are important requirements that we must meet. One is the cleaning achievements,” said Mohamad Hafiz.
“The two things we have improved in the latest iteration of dynamic diesel is the absorption of double-German chemistry and his own combustion improver,” he said.
Although maintaining important components – such as injectors – is clean of vital importance, he stated that this should be done both inside and out. He said that much of the focus on keeping the diesel system is usually about the injector snake, but this is not enough, especially with regard to common rail systems.

“Tackling the typical injector snake is one element. Of course, if there is a lot of carbon in the hose, you can’t spray the fuel. But one thing that people tend to forget when developing a fuel is the inside of the injectors. If there is a carbon structure at the injectors, the injectors will be troubled,” he said.
“That is why we have a double interruption chemistry to tackle both critical parts of the diesel motor system, not only the injector snakes, but also in the injectors,” he added. The additive package also offers a protective layer on the metal surface to prevent the structure of new carbon deposits.
Mohamad Hafiz said that the cleaning performance of the latest additive package is reflected in the rating of the fuel in internal diesel injector deposits (IDID) tests performed by the company.
“It can be seen in our rating, which is 30. This is the maximum assessment that we can get on the basis of the test, which is a very serious test. It is not based on the one hour or two hours that you see in a typical laboratory test, but includes a motor test bed, and it will walk 30 hours, 32 hours or 60 hours to see the additives.”
“If you have a very good cleanliness with your injector snake and your injector -you can deliver a very good fuel consumption.
The profit in fuel consumption is considerable, whereby Petronas retrieves figures to display his confidence in the fuel. “In the laboratory, the new dynamic diesel formulation shows up to 20% in improving fuel consumption, which corresponds to approximately 222 km extra per tank of fuel. This means that you can continue, to Ipoh (from KL),” he said.

Of course, selecting the right chemistry that works in the laboratory or a motorbike in the engine test was one thing, but evaluating the fuel in real circumstances with actual vehicles was needed to validate the findings. “We had to make sure that everything we had developed in the lab and were tested on the engine battle was also feasible in the real world,” he said.
The company has tested the fuel on different types of vehicle brand models and said that the profit of fuel consumption was recorded on all evaluators, with one as high as an improvement of 36% in fuel consumption. Four of the other eight test mules also registered more than an improvement of 20% and tied the laboratory results.
He also emphasized other points for improvement caused by the fuel. “In addition to fuel consumption, there is another thing that people are looking for, gear and power performance. Because any drop of fuel that we burn can supply extra power due to the combustion improver, we have up to 5% greater acceleration power and a maximum of 3% power reinforcement on the vehicle tests we have performed,” he said.

On the test bed he said it was shown that the Dual-Detergent package in Dynamic Diesel was able to clean a dirty motor and restore the capacity to 99% within eight hours, whereby the own combustion improver also yields an additional power gain from 1% to 2%.
During the test cycle, the fuel also had to minimize the power loss to less than 2% during a certain period. “This is according to the requirement according to the industrial standards, so that the power loss is minimized to less than 2%. This is a standard test protocol to define the cleanliness and efficiency of the fuel to ensure that the cleanliness of the engine is maintained,” he explained.
As previously was, Petronas Dynamic Diesel Euro 5 continues to have a high cetane number (about 55 and higher), resulting in a shorter inflammatory delay, which ensures easier starts and more flexible engine performance. Mohamad Hafiz says it is not necessary to use Cetane additives to improve the assessment, because Biodiesel is already helping in that process naturally.

“We do not have to use a Cetane improver for our additive package, because the biodiesel we use now, 7%, 10%, and in certain cases even 20%will even increase the Cetane rating above 55. Whatever you get at our stations, it is more than 55,” he said.
Mohamad Hafiz ended his presentation by saying that there is no need for aftermarket -fuel additives if users use Petronas fuels. “What is in our fuels have been adjusted, so we have more active ingredients compared to those in the market, and these offer a similar function, if not better,” he said.
The presentation was closed with a fast tour around Melaka Energy Park, which contributes to around 60% of the petroleum product question of the Malaysia peninsula. With a daily production speed of 300,000 barrels, the facility is equipped with various specialized processing units that are designed with the flexibility to process various crude oil, from sweet crudes to heavier imported raw oils. The newest addition to the Energy Park, the Delima factory, was launched in 2021 and produces Euro 5 Diesel.
