Two months after ending her tennis career in tears at the 2025 US Open, Peter Kvitov shares wonderful news: she and her husband Jiri Vanek expect them second child.
The 35-year-old Czech star became a mother in July 2024 when she gave birth to a son named Petr. She made her return to the WTA Tour in February 2025 at the ATX Open in Austin, Texas. Six months later, her comeback came to an end in New York, where she lost to France’s Diane Parry in just 53 minutes. That match marked the end of her professional journey, capping her post-pregnancy return with a 1–8 record.
Kvitova shared her second pregnancy news on Instagram with a tender family photo showing her husband lifting their toddler son, accompanied by the caption announcing that their son will soon become a big brother.
Reflecting on her decision to retire, Kvitova explained that she no longer had the same mental and emotional drive to compete. She admitted that the game no longer felt as natural as it used to, and that she missed the effortless rhythm of her peak years. Although she still loved tennis, she said the daily grind of waiting for practices, transportation and matches had become exhausting. With motherhood changing her priorities, she felt ready to embrace a new chapter and spend more time with her family.
Kvitova and her longtime coach Vanek tied the knot in July 2023, a year after their engagement at Wimbledon. Their intimate wedding took place at the exclusive Oblik resort, a peaceful countryside retreat near Prague. Vanek was previously married and has two sons from his first marriage.
