After a rollercoaster auction day that saw two houses passed – one without a single bid – Western Australian agents Britt and Taz have won The Block and walked away $520,000 richer.

The couple, who are already back on their feet in Newman (a remote country town 1800km from Perth), say the life-changing prize was a bittersweet victory.

“It’s mixed feelings right now, but I couldn’t be more proud of Britt, I couldn’t be more proud of our team,” Taz said.

“We don’t come from the glitz and glamor of the fancy cities that we’ve been staying in lately. We’re just little police officers in small towns, and now we can take a breather and really just take care of the kids. That was our whole plan for the future and that’s what we’ve done.”

Results of the block auction: how much did all the houses sell for?

The pair quickly became fan favorites among viewers and have made them local legends at home.

“We were done in June. We took to the air. And pretty soon we were back on the road with a gun on our hip,” laughs Taz, a proud man from Tharawal (Darawul).

“The local Indigenous community has embraced us as much as ever. But now they know we’re on TV, so it’s not uncommon for them to sit in town with free Wi-Fi on a few phones and watch The Block.”

While they enjoy their police work, The Block has opened doors to new ventures.

“I can’t really talk about offers,” Taz said coyly as he made a more permanent move to TV presenting. “I obviously didn’t like construction, as you can see, but I do like the media.”

And Britt is considering a future in interior design.

Britt and Taz’s auction, which started the day and attracted a flurry of bids before eventually being sold through a lawyer to an unknown buyer for $3.41 million, was the highlight of the day.

The impact of Adrian Portelli retiring in 2024 and reserves set at a whopping $2.99 million took a toll on the results.

With Portelli out of the mix, Block stalwart Danny Wallis returned to reclaim his crown as the biggest spender in the room. After confusing auctioneers with his signature erratic bidding style, the eccentric Wallis picked up Robby and Mat’s house for $3,099,999.

This amount left hairdressing friends Robby and Mat to share the profit of approximately $109,999.

Disappointed, Mat admitted: “We don’t feel sensitive, we’re devastated!”

Robby (who left his partner and son at home in Adelaide to film the show) added on the bright side: “There are hundreds of thousands of people sitting on the couch wishing they were in our shoes.

“And like we said, we laughed and we cried every day, but I think the whole street went along with it and we enjoyed the experience the most. Yes, I missed 40 percent of my son’s life on the show. It’s more the guilt of being away from my partner as a new mother, but she’s a real hero. I was hoping to take home a little more money for them today.”

Also dejected were new parents Emma and Ben and controversial couple Han and Can whose properties were transferred.

Emma and Ben had read the room after seeing Robby and Mat’s experience and paused their painfully slow auction before it went to market, fearing that they would ultimately only be able to collect a few thousand euros for their efforts.

A tearful Ben admitted he was “devastated” and said he would be satisfied if they could raise at least $3.1 million for the house.

“$100,000 is nothing to turn your nose up at,” he said.

“So we’d be happy with that. But you can’t help but feel like you’re losers in the finale of a great show. It kind of puts a damper on it.”

Sonny and Alicia, as well as Han and Can’s auctioneers, opened with a vendor bid to keep sale prices above $3 million.

Ultimately, Sonny and Alicia’s house sold for $3.06 million, giving them a $120,000 profit on top of the car they won earlier in the season.

Pragmatic Queenslanders were pleased because they had prepared to leave with nothing.

Despite enduring a horrific trolling spree — which left her so upset that she was bedridden for two days and considered seeking medical attention — Alicia would happily return for an All Stars season.

“If the phone rang tomorrow, we would 100 percent come back [even if we won nothing]she said.

Han and Can – who also suffered a lot of online abuse – failed to secure a single bid above their supplier’s opener of $3.1 million.

The pair have no regrets and have emerged stronger from their time on the show as a couple and as individuals.

Philosophical about their results, aspiring real estate agent Can said: “The average house price here is around $825,000, so these are remarkably premium properties and to get five of them under the hammer in one day was a tough task.

“But I’m proud of our team. I’m proud of Han, proud of The Block and we did everything we could.”
