NVIDIA-Supported Perplexity AI, the startup that Google challenges with its AI-drive search engine, is in discussion with mobile devices makers to install his new comet browser on smartphones in advance, CEO Aravind Srinivas told Reuters on Friday.

The relocation can considerably stimulate the reach of Perflexity by taking advantage of the “stickiness” of the browser, where users tend to stay with browser apps that are installed in advance or set as standard on their devices, which makes it possible to stimulate the use of the company’s AI tools.

“It is not easy to convince mobile OEMs to change the standard browser to CHROME,” said Srinivas, referring to the manufacturers of original equipment and to emphasize the challenge of user intake on mobile platforms.

COMET, currently in beta and only available on desktops, integrates the AI from Pertlexity directly into web browsen, so that users can ask questions about personal data such as Emails, agendas or surfing history, and even perform tasks, such as planning meetings or summarizing web pages.

PerTlexity is intended to focus on “tens to hundreds of millions” of users next year after stabilizing the desktop version for a few hundred thousand initial testers, Srinivas said.

The efforts reflect a broader shift in the industry to browsers with agent AI options, which need minimal human intervention to make decisions and achieve specific tasks.

Reuters reported earlier this month that OpenAi is developing its own Agentic AI -Browser, which could automate complex tasks, such as booking travel or managing finance.

From last month, the Chrome from Google had a market share of around 70 percent in mobile devices, while Apple’s Safari and Samsung’s browsers together still considered a 24%, according to StatCounter data.

Bloomberg News reported in June that PerTlexity was in conversation with Samsung Electronics and Apple to integrate its AI search options into their devices, which may improve assistants such as Bixby or Siri.

PerTlexity has completed an investment round of $ 500 million, which appreciated $ 14 billion earlier this year. The investors are Accel, Nvidia, Jeff Bezos and former Google CEO Eric Schmidt.
