Cricket fans were left shocked on Wednesday when Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli suddenly disappeared from the ICC ODI Batting ranking.
Both were arranged in the top five only a week ago, but neither in the top 100 in the latest update, which chaos on social media.
Rohit stood no. 2 behind Shubman Gill, while Kohli held the no. 4 spot in the previous hit list. Their absence led to speculation about pension, inactivity rules or even a possible snub from the ICC.
Speaking with Hindustan Times, an ICC spokesperson admitted that it was nothing more than a mistake.
“There was a mistake in our rankings today, but it has been remedied,” the official clarified.
However, the official ICC website still shows the last ODI update of 10 August and the corrected rankings still have to appear.
The timing of the error has only added to the confusion. Both Rohit and Kohli remain active in ODIs and were the key to India’s Champions Trophy Triumph in the VAE earlier this year.
Rohit hit a match-winning knock in the final, while Kohli anchored the Batting of India during the group phases in Dubai.
With the glitch, Babar Azam has temporarily moved to number 2 in the ranking, while Gill continues to lead with 756 rating points.
However, fans are waiting for the corrected table that the senior pros restores from India to their rightful positions.
On X (formerly Twitter), hashtags #rohitsharma and #viratkohli drank thousands of users when two of the largest ODI stroke people in India could disappear at night.
Some called it “the biggest blunder in the history of ICC Rankings,” while others accused the administrative body of negligence.
