Penguins that ‘n’ that: the state of Sid

Penguins that ‘n’ that: the state of Sid

A quick medley of items related to our penguins.

First and foremost, no official word or update Sidney Crosby’s injury. His right knee seemed to bend awkwardly after a blow from Radko Gud during the second period of Canada’s quarterfinal victory over the Czech Republic, forcing him to leave the match.

According to reports, Crosby received an MRI after the game. Canada coach Jon Cooper It seemed to indicate that Sid is an everyday occurrence, which, if true, would be great news indeed.

However, until a more official announcement is made regarding Super Sid’s condition, I’ll hold my breath.

Typical of our captain, although Sid was unable to return to the ice, he remained with the team and gave an inspiring speech during the second break.

Down on the farm

Maybe my subtitle should be “How ‘Ya Gonna Keep ‘Em Down on the Farm,” in honor of a certain peppery Wilkes-Barre/Scranton forward.

The Baby Pens blasted the Springfield Thunderbirds 7-2 last night, snapping a two-game losing streak. Can you guess who scored a hat trick?

If you answered Avery Hayesyou would be right.

Starting with his electrifying two-goal NHL debut against Buffalo on February 5, Hayes has been positively on fire, with two hat tricks and seven points for the Baby Pens in his last four AHL games.

Over his past 10 AHL games, dating back to January 21st, Avery has collected 10 goals and 13 points!

I’d say the kid makes a strong case for regular NHL duty, right?

Other lamp lighters for the Baby Pens included Ville Koivunen and a scrappy rookie pro Tanner Hoewho scored two goals each. Rutger McGroarty together with two helpers.

Between the pipes, Sergei Murashov turned aside 30 of 32 shots to get the ‘w.’

Philip Hallanderfully recovered from the blood clot that had kept him on the shelf since early November, played the first of a five-game conditioning assignment. I liked what I saw from the 25-year-old Swede during his thirteen games with the Pens earlier this season.

Kris Letang also seems ready to get rid of IR. He took part in the Pens training yesterday.

Olympic results

Heavyweights Canada and the United States each survived the shock of the quarter-finals yesterday to advance to the semi-finals. Mitch Marner scored in overtime to lead Canada past a determined and physical Czech Republic squad, 4-3. Quinn Hughes did the same for Team USA to defeat stubborn Sweden 2-1.

On Friday night, the United States faces Slovakia, while Canada takes on Finland.

Oh, Pierre Crinonthe hulking French defender fumbling around Tom Wilson during their Olympic Games, is now facing legal action over a previous incident in which he punched a goalkeeper.

Maybe the Pens should sign him.

I’m kidding…sort of.
