I have to confess, things looked pretty bleak last night for the Penguins. After we had beaten out of the Startpoort, we saw the Sabres an apparently insurmountable 4-2 lead on the way to the third period of our last pre-season measuring.
Then … Shazam … the boys in black and gold roared back to smear the visitors, 5-4, on Sidney Crosby’s overtime winner.
The truth is told, the game was a mixed bag with various highlights and lows for the locals, who almost went with a veteran -line -Up, plus children Ben Kindel” Harrison Brunicke And Sergei Murashov. Filip HållanderAlso, although he is not really a child at the age of 25.
Not to harpen the negative from the parachute, but nobody’s bag was more mixed than keeper Tristan Jarry’s. In his endless saga from up and down performance, Jarry leaked for three goals on 19 shots to destroy an early 1-0 lead, thanks to a bulldozer-in-a-construction-yard Tally by Philip Tomasino. (Comment: he has had a few of this preseason.)
Minutes after coach And Muse Called a time -out to collect the troops and pull the faltering Jarry in favor of Murashov halfway through the second frame, Brunicke hit a dazzling goal. The Quicksilver defender easily bypassed potential districts with his ultra-gladde step before he tears an unlikely top shelf Alex Lyon From a serious angle.
Goodness, what a goal!
Buffalo hit back at 4:37 PM on a semi-softy that was delivered by Murashov, who was unable to be a routine shot by Alex Tuch. Talented Kilich Arrived as Johnny-On-Spot to poke the biscuit house for his second goal of the night and to bring the score to 4-2 in favor of the Sabres.
It was the only shivering in a different solid version of the KID goalkeeper, who denied the other dozens of shots that came his way.
Focus on the cavalry. Rickard Rakell The comeback at 6:45 of the third with a Power-Play goal ignited. Crosby tied the score, again with the man-advantage, with one of his patented backhand at 13:54.
SID has closed the comeback only nine seconds over time with a tap-in goal, thanks to a silky setup through Erik Karlsson.
Puckpourri
It was a fairly even match, in which the Sabres held a slight lead, shot on goal (32-30) and Faceoffs (51.6 percent).
Crosby, Rakell and Karlsson seem to have not collected ‘rust’ (according to a play of words) despite a lack of action for the season. Hållander took his fourth assist to the exhibition lecture in his quietly efficient way on the goal of Brunicke.
Talk about the 19-year-old defender, he and partner Connor Clifton– Playing a rare game on his off (left) side – was heavy under water in terms of possession. Clifton partially soften seven hits against his old friends with a game-high.
I guess colleague -veterinarian Matt DumaThat has more experience with playing the portside, perhaps has the inside of the inside.
Caleb Jones was combined with Kris Letang To generally mixed reviews (each was a min-one). Parker Wother Spoon Held the fort next to Karlsson.
Kindel continued to dive in the mixed bag and helped Tomasino’s goal, but otherwise had a bit of a tough night. In his case did not help Tommy Novak make his usual passer -by efforts on a wing.
SOCILY, Evgeni Malkin (Primary assisting on Rakell’s goal) did not receive much help from linemates with double tower, Anthony scared And Justin Brazeau.
If his three previous season performs are an indication (.888 savings percentage), put yourself for a different roller coaster ride of a season of Jarry, full of dips (and soft goals). The 21-year-old Murashov, on the other hand, was usually rock-solid. That is of course the reason why he …
… On the way to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
To borrow from an old one Led Zeppelin Classic, there are two paths that can fall the pens. They chose a mainly veteran path.
Largely.
Due to absolutely no fault of their own fault (or shortage of performance), Murashov and colleague youngsters Tristan Broz And Avery Hayes Will start the season with the baby pins. Owen PickeringAlso, although there were some problems with the Rangy defender game.
In the meantime I will be a passage of non-productive veterinarians Noel AcciariBrazeau, Mantha and Novak can keep their jobs. For now.
I will also enter Jarry in that category. He no longer had what the dual All-Star had.
That said, Kindel and Brunicke did together with Ville KoiVunen And the above -mentioned Hållander, so there will be some fresh blood in the line -up. Maybe just not as much as expected or hoped.
In the case of Kindel, it can most likely be a nine-game test, with a return to Junior coinciding with Bryan Rust’s Return from Ir. As far as Hållander/Broz is concerned, the first must go through distance, while the latter does not.
I had mentioned it Rutger McGroarty Is it finally the last skating again?
In other movements, the pens will abandon Alexander Alexeyev” Rafaël Harvey-Pinard” Boko Imam” Sam Poulin And … panting …Ryan Graves (See my previous comment about Jarry). While I feel bad for Ryan, who never seemed like a fit from the first day, good Kyle Dub Before knowing when to say when.
Robby Fabbri was released from his PTO.
If the pens stay with the veterinarians, I doubt that we are more than challenging for a decent choice in the coming entry.
The good news? When Stairs to heaven Suggests, there is still time to change the rope that we are involved with.
Get your red hots
A last item to report, and this is thanks to colleague Caleb Dinatale.
Our fifth round pick in this summer’s entry, right wing Jordan CharronThe OHL is torn apart for the amount of seven goals and 10 points in six games. The Edgy 6’2 ”198 pound Soo Greyhound gets Raves from both his team and scouts for his wonderful combination of size, speed and skill.
Another potential late-round bullseye for the Dubas/Wes Clark combine?
Let’s hope.
