Penguins last a long time

The Penguins haven’t had much luck with their daily injury forecast lately. Shortly after the feeling of power forward/scoring Justin Brazeau was expected to be out daily due to an upper body injury, he was transferred to IR. His estimated timeframe, four weeks.

The day after Philip Hallander was tagged the same, the Pens announced that the 25-year-old rookie will be out at least three months due to a blood clot in his leg.

The hits indeed keep coming.

Too bad, not only on a personal level for the native of Sundsvall, Sweden, but also from a team perspective. Especially now that the club is about to travel to its home country next week for a pair of games against the Predators.

I really like what I saw from Filip during his second black-and-gold go-around. Just ultra-solid and smart, always with the right reading and correct play. Bombproof, to use a term often used to describe the sons of the Tre Kronor.

Aside from last season’s flashy performances, Hållander will likely never produce enough to earn a role in the top six, although he recently filled in Sid’s line admirably.

But for a bottom sixer? Found money.

Speaking of which, now the million dollar question. Who will take his place?

It’s fun to think ahead Tristan Broz (pictured), who scored five goals and eight points in 11 games for the Baby Pens, will get a chance. Maybe he will, albeit in some way. But for now, my money is on veteran Kevin Hayeswho recently returned from IR.

We’ll see.
