Penguin pivot point

Needed a nice, short post for a Friday and the mailman delivered. I’ll try to remember this when the post office eats my ESE (ebay standard envelope) order.

A few weeks ago I received an alert about one of my eBay searches for the Ron Cey MSA drives. Someone had put up for sale one of the last four I needed. It had been a long time since I had seen one that I didn’t have.

Unfortunately:

That next word after “Very” is “Scarce.” Yeah, okay, buddy. There’s no way I’m paying that for an unlicensed disc that looks like a lot of others I already have in my collection. To confirm that this was a rip-off, I found someone else selling about 15 MSA discs of the same Red Barn variant for $15. Unfortunately, there was no Ron Cey in the lot, but I thought about buying it anyway. Unfortunately, someone scooped it up while I was thinking. (The Red Barn back has two variants, one with an address on the back and one without. But this seller doesn’t mention which one it is, just that it’s the “ultra scarcest and the only one on eBay” 🙄).

I felt bad that the rational side of my brain won out on this particular item, but I was rewarded just two days later when my MSA drive search brought up my email again!

Hey now! Another one of the last four variations I needed! And at a price I can afford! That’s also the price I ultimately paid, since I was the only bidder. No one gets the thrill of these discs and I certainly appreciate that.

That took away the lead by not landing the Red Barn disc, which I’m sure is still up for bid and who knows for how long (please, no one is buying it).

And there is the variety that arrived today.

These are the last three I need now:

Custom sports discs

Family restaurants in the Red Barn

Wendy’s Hamburgers

And here are all 14 that I own together:

And here are the 14 with the two smaller versions with a different headshot of the Penguin:

And finally, what you’re all waiting for:

That’s good stuff.

I certainly respect the reasonable seller who allowed me to buy something I needed for a much nicer price. As for the Red Barn guy, I know there are people who argue strongly for getting the maximum possible price. I think being considerate should be part of doing business.

This is for dealers who simply want to add cards to the collections of collectors who will appreciate them.
