The Pebble Beach Competition d’Elegance has been held on the third Sunday in August for decades. Those changes in 2028 as organizers confirmed that the competition is progressing by a week and landing on the second Sunday in August. Competition chairman, Sandra Button, explained that the decision was driven by families who found it difficult to participate if schools throughout the country still start in August.
“Parents want to share their love for cars with their children, and we want to make that more possible. If we look at the calendars for Pebble Beach, for other competition and for other local major events, a simple step forward reduces the conflict for many for a week.” – Sandra Button, competition chairman.
Button also added that requests for an earlier date were stable and persistent of participants, judges, volunteers and spectators. This shift has broader implications because Pebble Beach determines the pace for Monterey Car Week. As we saw this year on a campaigning week, various competition events, charity rallies and auction houses are their schedules around it. RM Sotheby’s, Gooding & Company, Broad Arrow, Mecum and Bonhams all cluster their events around competition weekend.
