Manchester United was held into a 1-1 draw with Fulham in their second Premier League match of the season.
Unfortunately, Man United seemed to lose intensity as the game progressed and their lead lost to win their first point in two games in the new campaign.
First half
Barely 90 seconds in, United intercepted the hosts in their own half, with Matheus Cunha sent a speculative shot over the bar.
Moments later, Cunha was working on it again. Mason Mount drove the ball to the Brazilian in the box, whose shot defeated the keeper but could not beat the post. It was unlucky for Cunha, who did well to exceed the Fulham defense.
United continued to trust the ball, where Cunha put the ball to Mount, who brought him back to Bruno Fernandes. The United Skipper took a long shot that forced a rescue from the goalkeeper.
In a defensive error, United Joshua King of Fulham allowed the defense to break through. Altay Bayindir did well to take a leg out to deny Fylham an early goal.
Seconds later, Bayindir hit the ball at the opposite end, where Cunha came to the end and made a threatening shot that Leno was lucky to save. Cunha seemed more and more likely to score as the game progressed.
Fulham earned a corner for 15 minutes. Alex Iwobi waited for the edge of the box and took an admirable volley that Bayindir did excellent to save. The hosts came again near the scoring from their next corner, with Bassey struck his shot wide. Just like in the Arsenal competition, Bayindir missed no confidence from the corner and was easily put aside by the attackers.
With just over 10 minutes of half to play, VAR carried out a penalty check after Bassey was assessed to have pulled the mountain during a corner.
After the referee had checked the incident on the sidelines, he found that a fine had to be granted.
Fernandes went his way to the criminal place and shocked the ball over the top, which was an unusual moment of the United Skipper. Usually a penalty master, Fernandes, missed a crucial punishment, where the game remained scoreless.
Shortly after the restart, Casemiro received a yellow card to dive. He should be careful for the rest of the game.
Iwobi rose to United’s box and only crosses the ball for Bayindir to make a critical salvation.
The referee blew the whistle before the break, so United was enough to think with their performance that constantly immersed as the game progressed. They hope to rediscover their fine shape after returning for the second half.
Second half
It was a positive start of the second half, in which manager Ruben Amorim clearly spoke a feeling in his players during the break.
Mount passed the ball on to Amad Diallo on the right, whose decent shot from a tight angle was refused by Leno.
After the 51st minute, Amorim made his first two changes of the afternoon. Casemiro and Amad played for Diego Dalot and Benjamin Sesko, who was still looking for his first united goal after just one performance.
It seemed as if Fulham broke through the defense, but Yoro made an excellent sliding interception for Josh King too flawless.
Just before the hour Mark, United found their breakthrough. Bryan Mbeumo sent a surgical corner to Leny Yoro, whose header Muniz hit before he found the back of the net. 1-0 to unite in what was a great moment of relief for Amorim’s team.
Fulham came close to equalizing in the 68th minute, with Iwobi made a speculative shot on the edge of the box that just threw over the bar.
Then Manuel Ugarte came to replace Mount.
With 18 minutes to play, Fulham was right. Replacement Emile Smith-Rowe burst into the box and put the ball past Bayindir. Dalot was the culprit party and did not take note of the Fulham attacker who made his run completely without opposition.
With less than five minutes to play, Amorim Yoro and Shaw exchanged for Harry Maguire and Ayden Heaven.
Moments later, Mbeumo found the head of Maguire from a corner, with the shot of the deceased replacement inches wide. Yet it was a positive replacement for United, which clearly yielded some much needed energy with an upward interruption time.
Although United seemed hungry to a goal in five minutes after the stopping time, it was not, because the game remained the same.
Start XI: Bayindir, The Ligt, Mount, Fernandes, Sun, Dorgu, Joro, Amad, Casemiro, Mbeumo, Shaw
