PSL 2026 is set for a record-breaking season

The eleventh edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is scheduled to take place in 2026, and the excitement is already starting to build. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has revealed a major development, confirming a significantly increased prize pool for the upcoming season. The initiative aims to recognize franchises for their continued support and contribution to the growth of the league. So let’s know about the announcement of PCB Mohsin Naqvi.

Major increase in prize money announced

Naqvi announced on social media platform X that the upcoming edition will see a significant increase in financial rewards for the participating teams.

  • PSL 2026 Champions: $500,000 (approximately ₹4.48 crore)

  • Runners-up: $300,000

  • Best Franchise in Cricket Development: $200,000

The PCB chief expressed confidence that the increased prize money would further motivate the franchises to continue strengthening Pakistani cricket, saying, “Let us take Pakistani cricket to new heights.”

PSL expands to eight teams

In another landmark development, the PCB has confirmed that the auction for two new franchises will take place on January 6, 2026. This is the first expansion of the league since 2018, when the Multan Sultans joined the league.

The expanded format is expected to provide:

  • Increased business opportunities
  • Stronger competition
  • Greater fan participation
  • Broader national representation

Cities eligible for new franchises

Several major regions are being explored as potential home bases for the two new teams. The shortlisted cities include:

  • Faisalabad
  • Rawalpindi
  • Hyderabad
  • Sialkot
  • Muzaffarabad
  • Gilgit

Only bidders who meet the required technical benchmarks will proceed to the final auction stage. Successful bidders may then select their team name and home city from the approved list. The final shortlist is expected after December 5.

PCB refutes rumors about favorites

Reports had surfaced suggesting that Faisalabad and Gilgit were frontrunners in the franchise bidding process. However, the PCB dismissed these speculations and clarified that final decisions will be made strictly based on official evaluation and auction results.

A new era for PSL

With increased prize money, increased participation and increased regional representation, PSL 2026 promises to be one of the most dynamic seasons in the competition’s history. The developments reflect PCB’s renewed commitment to taking Pakistan cricket to the next level and building a stronger, more competitive domestic ecosystem.
