The launch was supposed to take place after the throwing of the second T20I, but the board pulled the plug at the last minute, taking broadcasters and officials by surprise.

Publicly, the PCB said the decision was made for “unavoidable” and logistical reasons, without providing any detailed explanation for the sudden change.

However, sources have linked the cancellation to the fact that Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has not yet given formal approval for the team’s participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup.

As things stand, Pakistan’s participation in the tournament remains uncertain and now depends on a final decision from the government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expected on Monday.

The situation has become more sensitive after Bangladesh withdrew from the tournament following the ICC’s refusal to shift their matches from India citing security concerns.

This development has increased pressure on Pakistan, which is trying to balance diplomatic issues without weakening its position within the ICC.

According to reports, the PCB is considering all options, including a possible boycott or selective non-participation, but is cautious about taking a strong public position.

Despite the uncertainty, the Pakistan team is scheduled to fly to Colombo on February 2, as per the current plan.

As per an existing ICC agreement, all Pakistani matches in the tournament, including a possible final, will be played in Sri Lanka.

The arrangement will see the matches between India and Pakistan held at neutral venues until 2027, meaning Pakistan will not have to travel to India for the event.

While the PCB has supported Bangladesh’s security concerns, the fact that the Pakistan Games are taking place in Sri Lanka weakens the logistical case for a full boycott.

For now, Pakistan remains in a wait-and-see mode as the wider venue and security dispute surrounding the 2026 T20 World Cup continues to unfold.
