Paul Merson -Opdeel on Newcastle United Six weeks after the season …

Paul Merson speaks about Newcastle United.

United with six weeks of the new season that passed by.

A very intense period with NUFC that plays every midweek because of Champions League and Carabao Cup.

Eddie Howe and Team are now preparing for their next game. A kick -off from 4.30 pm on Sunday, the home of Arsenal.

Paul Merson discusses how things are now for Newcastle United while preparing for this St James’ Park Clash.

Paul Merson talks to Sportskeeda before Newcastle against Arsenal:

“Newcastle always challenges Arsenal.

“The fans in St James’ park are always good, but they just get a little more electric in this fixture!

“Arsenal has lost their last three games there, so this is a difficult game for them.

“If Liverpool is held into a draw in Crystal Palace, Arsenal would not mind walking away with a point here. But if the competition leaders still get three points, this game automatically falls into the must-win category.

“If you look at Arsenal, they would have had to deal with the whole of Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle after this weekend.

“Imagine that you spend large and none of these three teams that ended in the top five last season? Where is the progress then?

“Arsenal has a good series of competitions after this game. But if you don’t leave Newcastle, you actually enter that run with an eight -pointed lead to chase.

“If you are a team in the title race, you don’t want to catch up when the easy luminaires come, you want to use them to get away from other contenders and instead kicking!

“Arsenal is not allowed to lean back in this game, if they do that, Newcastle will score. I would play Saka, Eze and Viktor Gyokeres here, but I don’t think Arteta will do that if I am honest. City.

“We saw how Newcastle Liverpool gave a strong fight earlier this season with only 10 men in St James’ Park. Liverpool was lucky to get away with a victory in that game.

“If you are Arsenal, you want to match what Liverpool has done here, but I don’t think they can do it.

“Forecast: Newcastle 1 Arsenal 1”

I actually think Paul Merson is pretty good here with his analysis.

As an Arsenal fan, he has based a lot of these from a Gunners perspective, but if Newcastle United wins on Sunday, they only go one point behind the side of Mikel Arteta.

As Paul Merson says, the fact that Newcastle United has won all the last re -meetings between the two clubs in St James’ Park. Arsenal has indeed lost all three without scoring a single goal.

You have to go back almost two and a half months since Arsenal scored for the last time on Tyneside and with Nick Pope who has held four clean sheets in five Premier League matches so far, Eddie Howe has his team defensively very healthy.

With its attacking options, Gordon is no longer suspended and as Woltemade and Elanga will be fully informed after signing in the summer, it is perhaps the case that one or more NUFC goals will win this on Sunday.
