Emerging trotter who is worth waiting (Full stead) Continued her promising turnout on Saturday evening (August 2) and gave her second victory of so many starts this season for Victorian Harness Racetrainer Bec Bartley.
The four -year -old mare showed Grit and Class to win at Melton, after a first success in Echuca on July 8. Earlier last year she raced in the Vicbred Super Series and won a heat in Geelong in September.
“She tries hard, and I think there is even more depth to come,” said Bartley, from Kialla.
“I thought she had gone into a bit of a bit in Saturday evening. I think I now know her better with how she is going – she is not really a track checker, but she is a small racing horse. Every race she keeps impressing me more.”
Patiently treated since he came to Bartley’s stable about 18 months ago, Waiting has now won four of only nine starts, with various other striking versions.
“She impressed me at her first start when she was in the wind and on Melton was on Melton and she ran a number of really good races, even if she didn’t win,” said Bartley.
“We took her to the NSW Oaks in Menangle in May last year and she ran in fourth place (behind Ster Merrieveen Keyang Zahara). She is a tough bugger and she just tries hard.”
That tenacity could be seen again at Melton. The effort to wait quickly started to destroy Barrier Four, Crossing Picket Wire (Ellen Tormey). She dismissed the challenges in the middle of the race and then fought back in the house immediately after Picket Wire laid out, and seemed to be worth waiting for Bartley’s mare gathering.

Although she is cool and is gathered on racing evening, Bartley admits that the wait is worth a handful at home.
“Once you know her, she is pretty good, but she is a picky eater and a little ‘high maintenance’! She can be grumpy, and she has a padded garden because she likes a bit of a kick,” she said.
“She will get away from you if you give her the chance while you do something with her – but I think she knows she’s the golden child here!”
Bartley, who prepares a team of about 15 in the Shepparton Training Center, previously worked in collaboration with her old mentor Steve O’donoghue before he left alone at the start of last season.
“We actually trained the Waiting Waiting’s mother (Sunshine Annie) while I was with Steve and Anne,” she said.
“Her owners – Mick Grace from New South Wales and John Nalder and Jane Hearn – have been really good supporters of me.
“John did all the early work with Wormth Waiting. He broke her in and I got her eight weeks before her first process, so I was quite lucky. We just brought her at her pace.”
The 4YO Vicbred Mares Division this season is stacked with quality, including the winner of several group 1 Keyang Zahara (15 wins of 16 starts), Violet Stanford, Maoris Mac (both winners on Melton on Saturday evening) and the well -pressed Pinnie and Jilliby Ballerini.
“She had a good break after the Vicbred series last year, and now we will strive to the Vicbreds again this year in November,” said Bartley.
“She has beaten a very tough four -year year, but we just keep her to tap, so that from here she is working on a run every fourteen days or three weeks from here and hopefully find a metro maiden for her.”
