Palmer did not focus on England World Cup squad after return from injury – Soccer News

Cole Palmer insisted his sole focus is on returning to full fitness for Chelsea after scoring in their 2-0 win against Everton.

The England international scored the opening goal at Stamford Bridge before Malo Gusto doubled their lead against the Toffees.

It was Palmer’s fifth Premier League goal against Everton, his highest goal against an opponent in the competition along with Brighton.

It was also his first league goal starting against Liverpool since May after his recent struggle with a groin problem.

England head coach Thomas Tuchel was on hand to see Chelsea end their four-match winless run, but Palmer is not yet thinking about the 2026 World Cup.

“I haven’t looked that far ahead to be honest. I’ve been injured for three months, I just need to get back to full fitness,” Palmer told BBC Match of the Day.

“I know what I can offer when I’m fully fit, so hopefully I’ll get there soon.

“I wouldn’t say I’m not at my best yet. I’m still struggling with an injury. Hopefully it will continue to get better, but there’s still some way to go.”

“It’s getting better. The things I’ve done with the physios at the club. It’s just a matter of not doing too much too quickly.”

“It’s literally a day-by-day thing. Hopefully it will get better.”
