Crystal Palace was relegated until 2025-26 UEFA Conference League subject to an appeal.
Palace qualified for this season’s UEFA Europa League by winning the FA Cup of last season, but there was a multi-club ownership conflict involving John Textor, who also had a 40% share in Lyon in France that qualified for the competition, albeit through the competition.
UEFA, however, appreciates the competition positions of higher interest than trophies in the previous season, which meant that Lyon was allowed to stay in the competition, finished sixth in Ligue 1, while Palace 11th had finished in the Premier League.
Textor had solved the multi-club ownership rule by selling its shares in Palace to Woody Johnson, but UEFA was not satisfied with the sale in terms of allowing Palace to stay in the Europa League, while later resigned from his leadership roles in Lyon in Lyon in the midst of their financial problems.
In the meantime, Lyon had been relegated to Ligue 2 because of financial maladministration that the crisis would have resolved, but they won a profession to maintain their Ligue 1 status, which caused their qualification for the Europa League via the competition via the competition position and ensured that Palace was degraded to the Conference Competition.
Instead, Nottingham Forest will be promoted to the Europa League instead of Palace, subject to a profession of the Eagles.
“The current decision can be opposed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, in accordance with Articles 62 and 63 of UEFA statutes,” UEFA stated in an official statement.
UEFA also explained that both teams were contrary to the rules of several club owned by 1 March 2025, despite the fact that Palace was not considered potential qualifications for European competitions at that time, amidst their FA Cup-Run that eventually ended in unexpected glory.
UEFA therefore referred to articles 5.02, 5.03 and 5.04 of the regulations of the UEFA Club matches, which meant that Lyon was accepted in the Europa League at the expense of Palace.
