It is 13 years since Pakistan won an Asia Cup for men for the last time.
In an attempt to prepare for the Asia Cup 2025, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was set to organize a Tri-Nation series with Afghanistan and the VAE organizes only a few weeks before the continental tournament. The series, which is expected to be played in the VAE, will give the men in Green a crucial lead in adapting to local circumstances.
Pakistan desperately looking for action at Asia Cup
Originally planned as a bilateral series between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the proposal to expand the match to a Tri series by the PCB, with definitive confirmation probably after the upcoming Asian cricket Council (ACC) meeting in Bangladesh.
After the annual general meeting of the ACC in Dhaka, Naqvi said: “Yes, it has been confirmed and will take place for the Asia Cup in the VAE. “Naqvi also hinted at the possibility of another Tri-Nation series in February 2026, with Pakistan, Australia and Bangladesh, during the planned tour from Australia to Pakistan. “I wish we can have it. Certainly, we would like to have it,” he said.
The T20i team of Pakistan, under the new coach Michael Hesson, has been pretty poor. They recently lost the three-match T20i-rubber against Bangladesh and even went down 30/6 in a must-win collision. On July 24, however, Pakistan won the dead rubber with 74 points.
Also, with all the backs and fourth around the Asia cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board would hope that their team will shine during the event.
The conversations between the three boards are in advanced phases and a formal schedule is announced as soon as the logistics is smoothed out. The idea, insiders say, is to simulate competitive match scenarios in the circumstances that reflect the Asia Cup, which is also kept in the VAE.
