Karachi: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) made an important decision on Wednesday with regard to participation in the Pro Hockey League, which offers the Government and the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) that no rupid for the Pro League must be given to the PHF.

PHF secretary Rana Mujahid, who spoke with Geo News in Karachi said the Pro League PKR 700 million and that the Federation does not need funds.

Instead, the Pakistan Sports Board should pay the event costs for the Pro League itself.

“It doesn’t matter if the money for the Pro League comes from the hockey federation or the PSB; the point is that the Pro League is extremely important for Pakistan’s hockey,” said Rana Mujahid.

He further said that the daily reimbursements of players should be given directly and that the PSB should handle all schemes, including booking international travel tickets and hotels.

“Our only goal is to improve national sport and to solve the problems of players,” he emphasized.

The PHF secretary added that participation in the Pro League will not only improve the skills of players, but will also improve the global ranking of Pakistan.

For the unexpected, earlier this week, PHF president Tariq Bugti revealed that the Federation asked for an extension in the deadline set by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) to confirm the participation of its national team to the Pro League.

The Apex Hockey Federation, last month, formally invited the Pakistan men’s team to participate in the Pro League after the withdrawal of New Zealand from the tournament despite winning the Nations Cup.

In the meantime, the PHF received a deadline of 12 August to inform the Apex Federation about their decision to accept or refuse the invitation.
