Lahore: The Pakistan Hockey Team players expressed a strong dissatisfaction on Thursday about the proposed daily fee of 400 rupees, and called it an insult to their dedication and sacrifices for the sport.

Players expressed their anger and said that the amount is far below the daily wage of a worker.

“Offering 400 rupees as a daily fee is like rubbing salt on our wounds,” a senior player noted.

“It is humiliating. What could be more respectful than this? We don’t even have regular jobs, and when the reimbursement comes, it is often delayed. Now they are talking about giving us only 400 calls.”

The players also stated that many of them are confronted with serious financial hardships, whereby their families have difficulty paying basic needs.

“Our country has given us everything and we are playing for national pride. But hearing this 400-group reimbursement is heartbreaking. If such conditions continue, we will have no choice but to leave hockey completely,” said a player.

According to the players, the lack of the right financial support is demoralizing and it is a serious threat to the future of sport in Pakistan.

On the other hand, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) gave secretary Rana Mujahid clarification and said that the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) had issued the directive to set the daily compensation on 400 rupees.

“The federation already offers players a daily reimbursement of 100 dollars. If the players are not satisfied with 100 dollars, how can she be expected to play for only 400 rupees? This guideline of the PSB is not practical,” said Rana Mujahid.
