Pacers’ TJ McConnell will miss at least a month with a hamstring injury

Indiana Pacers point guard TJ McConnell will miss at least the next month after suffering a left hamstring injury. Head coach Rick Carlisle confirmed the news Thursday.

McConnell has been an integral role player for the Pacers over the past six seasons with the team. He is expected to play a bigger role this season in the absence of star guard Tyrese Haliburton.

This puts even more pressure on Andrew Nembhard’s shoulders as he looks to guide the team in Haliburton’s absence.

As the Pacers sorted through their guard options, they also let go of Delon Wright in favor of signing Cameron Payne.

After all the positives that emerged during last season’s incredible run to the NBA Finals, this 2025-2026 season forces Indiana to run increasingly uphill.

It will take a tremendous effort from Carlisle, its staff and the players to make this upcoming season a meaningful one in the win column.

McConnell injury further reduces expectations on pacers

No Haliburton due to a torn Achilles tendon. Jay Huff replaces Myles Turner. Now McConnell is out for the start of the season. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to believe the Pacers can compete at a high level.

Pascal Siakam needs a career year to keep the Pacers relevant. Bennedict Mathurin should have a breakout year along with Aaron Nesmith and Nembhard.

Are there any surprises to be had between Huff and Isaiah Jackson at center? That’s the extent to which things should go well for the Pacers.

The East is still sufficiently depleted if there is reason to believe, but even if that’s true, making the playoffs seems like an extremely tall order.

Cleveland, New York, Orlando, Atlanta and Detroit all expect to get better. Milwaukee and Toronto have reason to believe they are also leading the way.

Philadelphia is a wild card, but Miami will feel like they have a chance if they can weather the storm in Tyler Herro’s absence.
