A couple who sold a former popular suburban pub for a record sum have bought the home of a famous artist for $14 million.
Former Goldman Sachs director David Nolan and his wife Anita last month sold the former Windsor Castle Hotel at 72 Windsor St, Paddington, now a luxury five-bedroom residence, for $26.85 million through McGrath agents Luke Hogan and William Manning.
The result broke the Paddington record by almost $7 million.
It has now emerged that the Nolans have bought respected artist Mary Shakman’s old home at 96-104 Glenmore Rd, Paddington, for $14 million.

The property on Glenmore Rd was originally built in 1835.
It had been owned by renowned artist Mary Shakman since 1992.
Described as a historic gem dating from 1835 with five bedrooms, original features and a copper roof, the property sold last Wednesday through Clint Ballard of Sotheby’s in association with Alan Fettes and Ashley Bierman of Ray White Double Bay.
Records show that Shakman, once a textile designer with clients including Carla Zampatti and Sportsgirl who became an award-winning painter, purchased the historic 1835 gem in 1992 for $550,000.
The Nolans are undoubtedly planning to renovate.
The Nolans sold 72 Windsor St, Paddington last month for $26.85 million.
It was converted into a residence by Sydney studio X.PACE in 2012.
Their former Windsor St home had already been converted from the 1880s pub into a home by Sydney studio X.PACE four years before their 2016 purchase for $11.85 million, equaling the suburb’s previous housing record.
But they have made further improvements.
Built over three levels with a loft, four bathrooms and a three-car garage, the Glenmore Rd residence is described as “one of the original orchard houses”.
It also has a separate building on the street side “for retail businesses”.
The property was also on the market in January, but was not sold.
