Former Manchester United -midfielder Owen Hargreaves has urged Ruben Amorim to implement a simple tweak in which Bruno Fernandes and Bryan Mbeumo are involved, which suggests that it could improve the team’s fortunes.
United underneath heavy start of the season
United has only collected seven points from their opening of six Premier League matches. They have lost three games and are currently in 14th place in the table.
The result of last weekend, a 3-1 loss for Brentford, has fueled new speculation about the future of Amorim and whether he is the right man to help the club move forward.
The Portuguese coach is under enormous pressure to supervise an immediate improvement of performance and results, in the midst of rumors that the Red Devils are already in line for potential replacements.
In anticipation of United with Sunderland on Saturday, Hargreaves has urged Amorim to return Fernandes to his desired number 10 -roll, while he deployed Zomerse Reckruut Mbeumo as the striker.
Hargreaves calls for a tactical solution
The winner of the United Champions League told TNT Sports About Fernandes: “He doesn’t play his natural position, he plays deeper. He plays like a box-to-box midfielder. Bruno is one of the best makers in the division. So you have to play him in his natural position.”
“But because they play two 10s, you could claim that the two best players of Man Utd were Amad last season [Diallo] and Bruno. They were the two 10s, and then they went and drew two 10s in Cunha and Mbeumo when you didn’t have a keeper or a striker. “
“So they could probably have done that. But they decided to get goals and signed Premier League players in Cunha and Mbeumo, which I like. But now Bruno has to play deeper to go on the ball and create.”
“So maybe he is not in the right defensive position because it is not his game, so that is on the manager to choose that. But I would like to see Bruno play like a 10, perhaps with Mbeumo as a no. 9. If Cunha and Bruno play like two 10s Plus Mbeumo, that is good.”
“Maybe Amad play as a wing rear left if you want to stay with the formation. I just think it is hard for Bruno, he will be criticized. I can’t imagine where they would be without him. I told him last year, towards the end of the season before the Europa League final. What he was able to produce in terms of consistency for them.”
Hargreaves also urged Amorim to settle on a first-choice defensive unit, who emphasized that the consistency on the back balances the team. He pointed to Liverpool and Arsenal while clubs pick the benefits of stability in the defense.
Moreover, Hargreaves also emphasized the need to resolve the goalkeeper situation. Altay Bayindir is currently the preferred starter, but his not convincing displays have led to more calls for Senne Lammens to get his chance.
