Connor McDavid has not even hit a free agency, but the possibility that the best player of hockey will be available, NHL teams (and some reasonably credible hockey sales points) has scenarios in favor of the absurd. While the oilers remain convinced, they can keep their captain, Athletics Writers recently asked in the competition to pitch how their teams could lure McDavid. The reactions produced a number of enormously creative – and occasionally bizarre ideas.
The Carolina Hurricanes, who nowadays seem to be in every important discussion for a difference maker about violation, perhaps presented the most courageous “real” trade concept: a package of three First round Picks, Andrei Svechnikov, top perspective Bradly Nadeau and goalkeeper Pyotr Kochetkov. Even that, Cory Lavalette, who suggested the field, admitted, “may still not be enough.”
In the meantime, the Calgary Flames leaned in Drama, suggesting that McDavid hugs his inner Anakin Skywalker and joined Edmonton’s hated three hours south. A new arena, cap -flexibility and a storyline “Dark Side” would make him the most polarizing player in Canada at night.
Some throws played lifestyle. The Anaheim -ducks offered McDavid Golf with Teemu Selanne, surf with Paul Kariya and the lives away from the Alberta microscope. Dallas Stars writers leaned on tax benefits, a reliable keeper in Jake Oettinger and a GM who has been from McDavid since the junior days.
Others went for pure spectacle. Columbus promised guns that bloom ’60 to 70 times, while Boston teased the idea of ’future McDavids’ thanks to the surplus of colleges of the city (that felt like a strange one). Nashville’s pitch? Country Music Cameeën and Nights with Morgan Wallen.
Even the Rivals of Edmonton in Toronto threw their hat in it and reminded McDavid that he grew up a Leafs fan. Their pitch was simple: come home, play with Auston Matthews and be the man to finally deliver a cup to the most tortured Hockey market.
Some suggestions limits Wishful Thinking. Minnesota openly admitted that they prefer to keep their own no. 97, Kirill Kaprizov. Winnipeg offered little more than “please?” While he points to the dominance of Connor Hellebuyck as a play -off draw.
From the High-Roller Lifestyle-Pitch from Vegas to the promise of Utah of a brand new franchise identity, the hypotheticals show how many McDavid each team would reform. Whether it is blockbuster transactions or lifestyle calls, the competition is already in line with ideas -in case the largest star of hockey ever actually comes on the open market.
What can the oilers offer?
Of course this column would not be complete without an offer from the team that McDavid is currently playing for. It is the team with which he is most likely to sign, even if it is a deal in the short term.
Daniel Nugent-Bowman wrote: “Although the future future of the oilers looks uncertain, there are not many teams ready to win the Stanley Cup now. Most core players are locked up, including Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard, and they can keep the window open if McDavid has a profit.
McDavid openly said that his most important focus is to bring the oilers a Stanley Cup. It seems a lot to suggest that he is ready to pack that. He may give the oilers another two years, but that would be three more chances to finally get over the obstacle.
Jason Gregor from Sports 1440 said that various expansion scenarios are on the table. “I even heard it … It wouldn’t shock me if McDavid signed a two -year contract on Like, $ 14 million.” (Real Kyper and Bourne Show). If McDavid does this, the offers of other teams have clearly not influenced his decision.
