Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen hopes Max Lowe will stay at the club despite interest from Danny Rohl’s Rangers.

Danny Rohl is now the man in charge at Rangers and it is clear he is looking forward to a reunion with Sheffield Wednesday defender Max Lowe, who brought Rohl to Hillsborough in 2024.

But Owls boss Henrik Pedersen hopes Lowe will stay at the club. He told it The star: “I don’t know. But I also hope that Maxxy stays. He is very important for us, but I have no control over that. I can only inspire to keep all our players, so that we can have the most competitive team possible.”

A Rangers deal for Lowe is considered unlikely at this time. The Star writes that SWFC are not in a position where they urgently need to sell players this month despite being in administration, although players can and will be sold at the right price.

When does Max Lowe’s contract with Sheffield Wednesday expire?

Lowe, 28, is one of the SWFC players without a contract in 2026. And worryingly, Sheffield Wednesday have no option to extend Lowe’s contract. Although Henrik Pedersen is desperately short of first-team players, SWFC’s season will inevitably end in relegation and cashing in on Lowe before risking losing him for free could be a smart financial move.

He may be unlikely to stay in League One next season and is also somewhat injury-prone. Furthermore, Sheffield Wednesday have an upcoming £500,000 payment to Troyes for the signing of Ike Ugbo in 2024, according to reports, and the sale of Lowe could help cover this.

At the same time, Pedersen could bring in more younger players if Lowe and even others leave, with those same youth players likely to be the players representing Sheffield Wednesday next season.

Who else could leave Sheffield Wednesday in January?

There are reports that Barry Bannan has interest from a number of EFL clubs. It is understood that Stoke City, Millwall and Preston are all keeping an eye on the Owls skipper, who is also out of contract this summer. Motherwell are also interested in signing Bannan this month.

Elsewhere, Chelsea have made a bid for Yisa Alao at SWFC. The youngster is quickly becoming a valuable asset for the Owls and a bidding war could soon arise for the Sheffield Wednesday man, along with Bailey Cadamarteri.

Hibs are interested in signing Cadamarteri having already rejected a bid, while Millwall are also said to be eyeing the Owls Academy graduate.
