Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has done just that confirmed Louie Barry is back at Aston Villa for treatment as the club prepares to review all loans.
Sheffield United won the race ahead of Louie Barry during the summer transfer window. The 22-year-old had no shortage of interest as he looked to get back to his lethal level after a tough spell at Hull City.
The forward starred in League One with Stockport County but his time with the Tigers was hampered by injury. Unfortunately, his SUFC stint didn’t yield much better results. He started just once under Chris Wilder and was left out of the last five matchday squads.
Barry’s place in the Blades pecking order means many are expecting a loan termination in early January, and Wilder has now revealed he is back at Aston Villa. However, this is due to the treatment, not because his loan has been cancelled.
“He’s there again,” he countered The star. “It was a difficult loan for Louie, but he is currently nursing an injury.”
Louie Barry is one of several Sheffield United loans likely to be terminated
Sheffield United were one of many clubs to take advantage of the loan market in the summer. It can be a smart way to get good prospects and out-of-favour senior players on temporary bases.
At first glance, SUFC’s lending business looked quite solid.
Barry signed as a promising prospect, and Tyler Bindon is an EFL-proven player who also has a bright future. Were also refurbished Ben GodfreyDjibril Soumare and Chiedozie Ogbene.
Unfortunately, Soumare is the only one of the five who can be classified as even close to scoring, given the action he found. Godfrey and Bindon are far down the pecking order, and Ogbene had already started before the injury struck.
Of the five loan players, it seems highly likely that Barry, Godfrey and Bindon’s deals will be called off. Wilder confirmed that all deals will be reviewed in the run-up to January, although writing for the aforementioned trio may already be underway.
Sheffield United want to revive the season after the summer disaster
Sheffield United simply need to get January right after a disastrous summer.
Not only was their recruitment more than questionable, but the decision to fire Wilder and replace him with Selles was the most expensive of the lot. SUFC quickly reversed that decision by bringing back the legendary boss, but not before major damage had already been done.

However, the Blades still have time to turn things around. Back-to-back wins have lifted them out of the bottom three and Wilder looks set to pull a long-awaited tune from this underperforming group.
With the help of some better recruitment in January, United can make something of this season. The tightly packed Championship table means they can rise to 18th with a win over Leicester City on Saturday.
