The Premier League has gone on hiatus for the second time this season as the October international break gets underway.
We’re using this quiet period to assess which players have impressed most in the first seven weeks of the campaign in our all-too-early squad of the year. Let’s get to it anyway.
Our Premier League team of the season so far in 2025/26
GK: Robin Roefs – Sunderland
Few would have expected Sunderland to have more wins than losses at this point, let alone have the fifth-best defense for goals conceded. Robin Roefs has been the backbone of that effort, keeping three clean sheets while making the third-most saves (24) of any goalkeeper.
RB: Jurrien Timber – Arsenal
Jurrien Timber has started the season in red-hot form from an attacking point of view, registering two goals and an assist while completing nine key passes. But he has also played a part in the meanest defense in the division, which has kept four clean sheets and conceded just three goals, the fewest of any team.
CB: Marcos Senesi – Bournemouth
Any concerns about Bournemouth’s backline following the sales of Dean Huijsen and Illia Zabarnyi may be misplaced. Marcos Senesi and Bafode Diakite have stepped in to fill the void, with the former particularly impressive.
He leads all centre-backs in interceptions (13) and ranks second in clearances (57), and his workrate has apparently caught the attention of Lionel Scaloni, who called him up to the Argentina squad three years after earning his only cap for the Argentina side.

CB: Marc Guehi – Crystal Palace
You wouldn’t know that Marc Guehi missed out on a dream move to Liverpool on deadline day. The centre-back has continued to be his assured self at the heart of Crystal Palace’s defence, keeping three clean sheets and conceding just five goals.
LB: Riccardo Calafiori – Arsenal
At the other end of Arsenal’s backline, Riccardo Calafiori has not stood out as much as his right-sided counterpart, but he has scored one goal and still made two assists. The Italian has made 14 shots, which is just one pair than striker Viktor Gyokeres, and has created four chances. Defensively, he has completed 24 recoveries.
CM: Moises Caicedo – Chelsea
Two years after his £100 million move from Brighton, Moises Caicedo is finally emerging as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. The Chelsea star has been an absolute machine so far, leading all midfielders in the top flight for tackles (28) and interceptions (18). Meanwhile, he also scored more goals (3) than any other player in his position and ranks second for total passing among midfielders.

CM: Tjjani Reigence – Men City
Full disclosure: This writer felt Manchester City had spent too much money on Tijjani Reijnders, but the Dutchman has had no trouble slotting into Pep Guardiola’s midfield.
The 27-year-old has already developed a good relationship with Erling Haaland, providing two assists for the striker, while also having a goal of his own.
RW: Mohammed Kudus – Spurs
Mohammed Kudus has always been exciting to watch, but has often been mocked for his lack of end product. That could change this year as he leads the Premier League for assists (4) and scored the winning goal for Tottenham at Leeds United last weekend.
The Ghana International strike benefited from a slight deflection but he deserved it for how well he has played this season. He currently leads the division among right wingers for shots (13) and key passes (13), while his 30 successful take-ons is the most in Europe’s top five leagues.

LW: Antoine Semenyo – Bournemouth
This looks like a good breakout season for Antoine Semenyo, who is second for goals (6) and joint-third for assists (3) in the league this season. Opposition divisions have found it almost impossible to lock him down; He has taken the second most shots (17) and completed the fifth most dribbles (34) among all players.

CF: Erling Haaland – Man City
Erling Haaland is enjoying another ridiculous start to a season, scoring nine goals in the first seven games. He has overtaken Ole Gunnar Solskjær as the highest-scoring Norwegian in Premier League history and becomes the fastest player to reach 50 goals in the UEFA Champions League. There’s just no stopping this guy when he’s in this kind of mood.

CF: Nick Woltemade – Newcastle United
It’s only been four games, but we absolutely love Nick Woltemade. He had to replace one of the club’s biggest strikers, while Bayern Munich have thrown barbs at Newcastle United for spending so much on him. And he has taken it all in his stride, scoring three goals to help the Magpies bounce back from a rocky start to the season.
Yes, one of those goals was a penalty, but it was one of the most sweetly taken spot kicks we’ve ever seen. He also seems like a sweet guy, who doesn’t hurt.
