3:48 pm: The Orioles announced the IL placement of Westburg and the selection of Machin’s contract. Catcher Gary Sanchez was transferred from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL to open a 40-man selection. He has been outside since the beginning of July due to a knee sprain.
3:35 pm: Place the Orioles Infielder Jordan Westburg On the wounded list and selects the contract of colleague -Infielder Vimael Machin To take his place on the Roster, Interim manager Tony Mansolino announced to reporters (Via Matt Weyrich van de Baltimore Sun). They must make a schedule of 40 men before those transactions become official.
Westburg, 26, has been out of the line -up since he was removed from Monday after the tweaking of his ankle while completing second base. This is the former No. 30 General Pick and the second Il -Stint of the Top Prospect season. He missed more than a month early in the year because of a hamstring tribe. He also missed almost two months last summer because of a broken right hand.
Despite the injury problems in the past calendar year, Westburg has emerged as a clear piece of the Baltimore Core. He played in 180 games and took 751 record performances since the opening day 2024 and cut .269/.317/.478 (123 WRC+) with 33 homers, 35 Doubles, six triples, seven steals and a running speed of 21.7%. The freely swinging Westburg at that time only walked 4.9% of his travels on the board, but he made sufficient contact and has become sufficient power to keep his on-base percentage close to the competition average.
The O’s have not yet given a timetable for the return of Westburg. He will be released for at least a week – the IL -Stint will be reduced to last Tuesday, the maximum three days allowed – and there are only about five weeks left on the regular seasonal calendar.
Instead of Westburg, the O’s the Journeyman Machin, who signed a Minor League deal in the winter. Machin played in 107 games and has played 443 record performances with a strong .285/.344/.470 battle line with Triple-a Norfolk this season. He jumped 15 gays and wiped 13 bases at that time and walks with a clip of 8.4% against a strike output of 16.7% that is considerably lower than the League average.
This will be the first Major League campaign of Machin since the 2022 season. The former Cubs farm was a rule 5 choice through the As before the 2020 season and spent parts of three seasons with the now formator Oakland Club. He only hit .208/.290/.261 in 361 plate performances from 2020-22, but Machin is an accomplished Triple-A-Beslagman, proven by a .289/.371/.449 oblique stripe in nearly 1400 plate performances at the highest minor League level.
