MK Dons take on Salford City this weekend looking to get back on track after a slight dip in form. They were unable to bounce back from the defeat to Bromley with one 2-2 draw against Barnet during their last League Two appearance.
MK had previously won four in a row, so Paul Warne I hope to return to those heights here. Despite recent results they are still in fifth place, two points behind the top two and four points behind leaders Walsall.
In midweek a substituted MK Dons side lost 4-0 to Swindon Town in the EFL Trophy.
Salford City, meanwhile, are directly above their upcoming opponents in 5th place. There is only one point separating them and MK, but it is the Ammies who have the momentum behind them.
Under the guidance of former MK Dons boss Karl Robinson, Salford have taken seven points from the last nine available in the league. They emerged victorious in clashes with Oldham Athletic and Gillingham, before playing out a goalless draw at home to Cambridge United.
Their shape has also been translated into the cup. The Ammies beat Lincoln City on penalties in the FA Cup and beat Wolves U21s in the EFL Trophy earlier this week.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
James Ray
“This is an intriguing clash between two sides who both have ambitions to become mainstays at a high level. For MK Dons, nothing short of promotion will do after such a summer outlay, while Salford City will be looking to finally get over the hump and make a serious move into League One.
“They are both strong sides in their own ways, but it is the Ammies who have the momentum.
“Karl Robinson’s men have been solid in the league, and that has also translated into some great cup performances. That win at Lincoln City is one they will be particularly happy with.
“MK’s home form has been a bit patchy as the visitors had a route to victory. I think the hosts win this match at their best, but they haven’t been at that level lately so I think Robinson will get a big win at his old ground.”
Prediction: MK Dons 1-2 Salford City
Harry Mail
“MK Dons have quality in their squad and should be confident against anyone in League Two. However, their form has been inconsistent.
“The Dons are under pressure to get promoted under Paul Warne. They are winless in their last two league matches and will want to get back to winning ways.”
“However, Salford City have made an impressive start to the season. The Ammies will be tough customers for the hosts here.”
“Karl Robinson’s side are just above their upcoming opponents in the table. I don’t think there will be too much to separate the pair on this one.”
Prediction: MK Dons 1-1 Salford City
