John Daly High-Fived Steve Buscemi. He shouted that he wanted to go to Hooters.
Daly also hit Buscemi at the back. Then Buscemi hit him back. After a few more strokes, they struggled.
The back and forth between Daly, a dual big winner, and Buscemi, an old actor, provided a few seconds towards the end of the “Happy Gilmore 2”, the sequel to the beloved golf -based film that Recordkijker has set up on Netflix. But maybe the best part of the scene?
Although millions have seen the film with actor Adam Sandler, apparently no one saw the Daly-Buscemi moment coming while it was filmed. In an interview with Hard Rock Bet, Daly said it was improvised.
“Well, I think my first scene was with Steve Buscemi, man,” said Daly. “What a great guy, and just an incredible actor-the films in which he has been, the work he did and he made it all really comfortable. We went a bit out of the script with that scene. You know, the part where we came in a fight on the couch-that was all just me and he who left.
“And Adam thought it was great. It was just a very cool experience.”
Why they fought? We will not spoil it, in case you haven’t seen the film yet. But we will say that Daly can often be seen over it.
“It was just a very cool experience,” Daly told Hard Rock Bet. “It felt like a bridge between the old generation of Happy Gilmore and the new – with all the crazy golf items that are going on.
“I thought Scottie Scheffler was also great in it. It was just an explosion to do. Adam and I have been friends for a long time and it was an honor to be part of it. I am just happy that he said I was doing well. I think I did a little more than ok.”
Daly is one of the many professional golfers in the film, although he is first in the credits. Others include Keegan Bradley, Fred Couples, Bryson DeChambeau, Nick Faldo, Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler, Jim Furyk, Sergio Garcia, Charles Howell III, Charley Hull, Brooks Koepka, Nelly Korda, Nancy Lopez, Hunter Mahan, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Jack Nicklaus, Corey Pavin, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Lee Trevino, Bubba Watson and Will Zalatoris.
“It was really nice to film a movie,” Scheffler said last month. “They received a great turnout from current players and former players. I think it’s just because the first film was so iconic and Adam Sandler is such an iconic actor and a man who was a real treat to work with. I had a lot of fun to film it.
“The reviews for the movie so far were great. I really enjoyed looking at it. I thought they did the great job with the script and the golfers did a great job. Will Zalatoris in his role brought me up. The dinner scene were so many good one-liners in it.
