“Why do you always wear brown mascara?” I ask my mother while I am dipping her make-up bag 10 years old, and my toe for the first time in makeup.
At this stage, the only make-up I had ever worn, facial paint for school shows, which means that something that was not designed to be seen at the back of an auditorium was completely confusing.
I could not understand why someone would like to wear makeup that was not obvious, so wearing a mascara that was designed to enter into your natural eyelashes felt terribly confusing.
Because of my teenage years I remained faithful to this mantra, where pocket money was extended on jet-black Mascara formulas, before I finally graduated from a liquid eyeliner and black Mascara combination.
But when I became a beauty journalist, it suddenly became my job to do in different makeup, which forced me to pick up Brown Mascara again.
Initially I was not convinced at all and certainly that brown mascaras showed my eyelashes only red, short or bald, so I threw it aside for the second time.

But last year, after a series of recommendations, I took a point on Guerlain Noir G Mascara in Brown and I immediately fell for his soft, subtle results.
Nowadays I find black mascara far too hard or heavy (especially on days when I don’t wear a concealer or blush).
It can create too much contrast and rinse my face, making me look tired, and that is before it is stuck under my eyes to create bags that are worth a very nighter.
Instead, I think it’s great how brown mascara gives my eyelashes a natural -looking lift, which is stunner on trend and defines my eyes without making them the center of my face.

Annoying, trying a mascara before you buy is not really an option (unless you feel like rolling the dice on an eye infection), so finding the right formula can be a bit of falling and getting up.
Although I can’t do that for you, I can recommend my favorites this to all mascaras that have a permanent place in my (rather overflowing) makeup kit.
The Mascara extension
Macstack Mascara in Chestnut, £ 27
Macstack is a marmite product.
Although it is one of my favorites, I know many people who disagreed, with reference to the somewhat transfer -sensitive formula.
However, my relationship with the cult classic mascara can only be described as a love affair, thanks to the unparalleled extension and easy to maneuver magic wand.
I initially fell for the black formula from Macstack, which does great work when blowing and extending eyelashes, but always looked a bit grim on my complexion.
So you can imagine my joy when the brand dropped Macstack in Chestnut last May, which is a stunning, warm brown shade.
In addition to his eyelash-flattering formula, the camperous wand hooks and sweeping hook up, so that they stay long and defined is an absolute winner.
The determining mascara
Sculpted by Aimee My Mascara in Rich Brown, £ 19
With its short wand and curved brush, this mascara is all about precision.
Designed to both lift and extend it, it has a very lightweight formula (which may feel a bit ‘wet’ when you use it for the first time), so that you can build up different layers for ultimate definition, without any dryness.
I am also a big fan of the short wand, so I can come up with my eyelashes from close and personally – eventually to help me fan out and out.
It is also worth noting that the formula leans to a chestnut brown, which means that it is lighter in color for competitors, which should be a consideration if you have dark eyelashes.
The Smudge-proof mascara
Ulash Buismascara in Mokka Bruin, £ 16
This mascara was only launched last month and had to do a lot of heavy lifting to find its way to this list.
However, I immediately pulled to this formula (I actually wear it while I write), which owes it to the blow, which extends the results.
Straight from the tube, it is warm and chocolate, but looks like a much darker, black/brown formula that has been applied to your eyelashes once.
It finds the perfect balance between lightweight, flexible and transfer-resistant and has a hose formula-what means that it forms a determining layer (or “tube”) around each eyelash.
Eventually let my eyelashes venture for hours, long and raised – so much so much, I have not taken the trouble to curl them first.
The Fanning Mascara
Guerlain noir G 24H Intense Volume curly mascara in Bruin, £ 32
This is the product that I converted to me on his own into Brown Mascara what a fairly daring claim is.
Although it is certainly not the cheapest mascara on this list, I can be responsible for its dramatic extension, curly and voluminating properties, the latter of which according to the brand increases by 106%.
In addition to his beautiful golden tube, it has a flattering dark chocolate formula, which closely matches the natural color of my eyelashes, resulting in a seamless and natural finish.
The brush has a unique, somewhat twisted shape, which both fans and extends of eyelashes, while also captures and expands the smaller eyelashes of my eyes.
Another crucial factor is how easy it is to remove, because a soft cleaner is sufficient to melt it – so no scrubbing or micellar water requires.
The wallet-friendly mascara
Rimmel Thrill Seeker Extreme Volume Mascara in Cappuccino, £ 12.99
If you are looking for volume that does not look heavy or unnatural, then this mascara is definitely worth a doll.
Rimmel Thrill Seeker in Black was one of the first mascaras I have ever bought – after weeks of saving pocket money – and I immediately fell in love with his lifting, designing formula.
Nowadays the black formula is a bit heavy to my taste (especially on days when I don’t wear any other makeup), so I switched to the brown formula, which is much more subtle.
Although it is the cheapest formula on this list, it stacks against the rest for long-term results, and I am a fan of tapered brush, which is useful for creating a Fluttery-Eye look.
