Last weekend at UFC Abu Dhabi, Steven Nguyen unleashed a wild two -part mauling, falling Mohammad Yahya A stunning six times in the round one, only established in a breathe and a UFC record. Veteran referee Jason Herzog Finally the massacre between rounds two and three, but not before Yahya’s eye was mutilated without recognition (watch highlights).
This was not only a fight-it was a one-sided demolition that buzzed the MMA world about fighting safety.
UFC broadcaster I am the Tekwho was not a collect, did not stop his Anik & Florian Podcast.
“What do we do in the form of fighting safety?” Anik smoked. ‘Maybe I should call my friend Jason Herzog, whom I really love and be like:’ Hey Jason, it’s Jon. Do me a favor and do I just stop the fight? “There is a lot to unpack here … I felt that the fight should have been stopped. Paul Felder Towards the end of the round two said: ‘This fight will not continue, right? Because a doctor will become involved here. ” ‘
Anik noticed that commentator Michael Bisping First asked a potential stop at the point of two and a half minutes of round one because of the barrage of knockdowns.
“I really believe, because we don’t judge brain damage that live in the moment, but after countless knockdowns, I don’t say that there should be a knockdown rule in mixed martial arts, but it exists for a reason. After six or even of these F – we can stop the fight,” Anik said.
Yahya, fainting in his UFC run, was a human punching bag and offered no intelligent defense like Nguyen Teed off. Look, I am a “normal bleeding” kind of man like the rest of you, but this was hard to watch. Herzog’s decision to make the slaughter were bad.
Anik, however, gave Herzog some credit, referring to his handling of the Fight of the Year 2024: Daniel Zellhuber Vs. Esteban Riabovich.
“Tapology ranks the Zellhuber vs. Ribovics as the 34th largest lightweight battle of all time in MMA, and the number 1 fight of the year in 2024. Jason Herzog was the referee for Zellhuber and Bibovics,” said Anik. “I don’t know if I was suggestive on the broadcast that the fight should have been stopped at some point, but I thought Zellhuber should have been saved a little to live to fight another day. The result was that Herzog let the fight play masterfully, and the result was the fight of the year.”
Yet Anik Herzog did not leave the hook completely. “But my thesis statement is always:” What do we do in the form of fighting safety? ” The ends do not justify the resources.
MMA’s history is strewn with epic comebacks – think of Pat Barry Vs. Cheick Congo or Brock Lesnar Vs. Shane Carwin– Where hunters have been absorbed to take the victory. But Yahya? He was never in this fight, eating shots without hope for a rally.
The uniform rules of MMA, established in 2000, do not have a knockdown limit, but Nguyen-Yahya has ruled the debate. Perhaps there should be a fixed knockdown rule to protect hunters.
What do you think, Maniaks?
