The Australian cricket player Usman Khawaja said that sports organizations should consider banning Israel for world competitions, accusing the violation of international law in the murder and starvation of Palestinians in Gaza.
“No country that does not follow international law or humanitarian law, commits war crimes, should be seriously viewed in their position and their privilege all over the world,” he told SBS News.
When asked whether Australia should allow Israel to be represented at the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane, he said, “It’s far away.”
“I hope I still don’t talk this in 2032 … If this is still ongoing in 2032, God help us,” he said.

But the International Olympic Committee has almost excluded the suggestion, in which a spokesperson SBS News who tells both the teams of Israel and the Palestinian territories are recognized and “have equal rights”.

“Teams of both took part in the Paris 2024 Olympics and their athletes lived peacefully under one roof in the Olympic village,” said a spokesperson.
The opening batsman had a private meeting with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Canberra, encouraging him to end all trade with Israel and impose strict sanctions until he said, “Help flows back in Gaza and they stop killing innocent children.”
While Khawaja said he wanted to keep the details of the conversation private, he said they had “a great om and-fro” ideas.

But he said he believes that “there is more courage to have” when imposing targeted sanctions on Netanyahu, who received an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court of alleged war crimes of starvation and crimes against humanity last year. Netanyahu denies the allegations.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers, who was also present during the meeting, said reporters on Wednesday that he respected Khawaja as a leader.
“The best way to understand Usman Khawaja is that he is a great cricket player, but that is not his best quality. He is a great humanitarian and a very fine Australian,” Chalmers said.
Khawaja has publicly argued for the Rights of Palestinians, both online and on the field, since the military bombing of Israel started more than two years ago.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) prevented the cricket player to wear shoes during a test match in December 2023, with text that read: “All lives are the same” and “Freedom is a human right”. He was accused by the ICC for wearing a black bracelet to support people in Gaza and then re -blocked by the Council of Showing a Pigificker on his bat prior to the test match for Christmas Day.

Khawaja said the reason he started to express himself to support Palestinians was because of how struck he felt like the father of two girls.
“I remember that I only saw these young Palestinian children wrapped in white sheets and mothers and fathers cry over their bodies,” he said.
“It still makes me emotional, because I think, what if that was my daughter? What if that is my Aisha, my island that I wore to the cemetery?
“It is difficult enough, losing a child. It is difficult, even more difficult, they lose hunger. So when I see, it breaks my heart.”
The integrated classification for food safety (IPC) supported by the United Nations has warned that the “Sausage Hungarian Nood Scenario” unfolds on a population of 2.1 million.
Earlier this month, the IPC determined that famine took place in Gaza City And would probably spread to other parts of Gaza. The group said that 514,000 people experience famine, with the number that is expected to rise to 641,000 at the end of September.
Israel describes widespread hunger who is documented by aid organizations as “a Hamas-orchestrated Hunger campaign”, where Netanyahu explains: “There is no hunger policy in Gaza, and there is no hunger in Gaza.”

In a statement to SBS News earlier this month, a spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said: “The IDF strongly rejects the claim of intentional starving of the civilian population.”

Khawaja said that the situation in Gaza should not be considered a political issue, but rather a human rights.
“People have enough images, they have sufficient documentation, sufficient objective data.
“It’s sad to think [we are] In a world that has no effect on everyone, but it happens. “
SBS News has contacted the Israeli embassy for comment.
