Ahead of Manchester United’s victory over Sunderland on Saturday, Ruben Amorim was under immense pressure following a dismal start to the new season.
While INEOS publicly supported him, there were increasing calls for the co-owners to relieve the head coach of his duties and hire someone else.
The summer strategy of signing Premier League proven players had worked out well, which is why Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co. to use the same strategy for their management hunt.
Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola emerged as the target, but the favorite was Oliver Glasner, who has done a fantastic job since taking over at Crystal Palace.
Glasner in Palace
As well as his impressive record with the Eagles, the Austrian’s current contract also expires next summer and despite Palace’s best efforts he has yet to sign on the dotted lines.
That gave the Red Devils hope of getting their man, but now Air sports has revealed that the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss has his eye on another job.
He desperately wants to coach Bayern Munich, who he considers his dream club, and even if he signs a new contract at Selhurst Park, he wants a release clause that can be activated by the Bundesliga giants.
“Current Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner dreams of one day taking charge of Bayern Munich.
The Austrian coach, whose contract with the London club expires at the end of the season, is highly coveted by the Palace management, who are keen to extend his contract.
Dream job now revealed
But even if he extends his contract, a move to Bayern wouldn’t be ruled out; a specific release clause could be included in the new contract to allow for this transfer if the opportunity arises.
“The Eagles only hope that Vincent Kompany (under contract until June 2027) continues to perform at the highest level for the Bavarians to encourage them to keep the Brussels technician in place.”
Palace will hope Vincent Kompany can continue to impress in Bavaria, while Ruben Amorim will also breathe a sigh of relief.
The pressure on the Portuguese has decreased after the victory over the Black Cats, but the result will mean nothing if the team cannot produce good results against Liverpool after the international break.
