OKC Thunder: biggest questions in the training camp 2025

NBA -Trainingskamp starts this week around the competition and the Oklahoma City Thunder has a few days to prepare for the team’s preview of the team on 5 October in Charlotte against the Hornets.

The ruling champions have a full 15 players on full-time NBA contracts, together with a few two-way players, which means that there is still one place left.

The Thunder will also deliver a number of extra players in Camp Deals, mainly to possess their G League rights and to offer a chance to earn the third and last two-way place. De Thunder plays his regular season opener on October 21 against the Houston Rockets, so the 2025-26 campaign is less than a month.

What are the biggest questions for the Thunder that enters the training camp?

Who fills the last two -way spot?

When it comes to fighting for an open schedule, the vast majority of players in the Oklahoma City Training Camp schedule are already locked up. From a realistic point of view, it is only one two -way contract that is still in front of grabbing. It is not a place where the Thunder is obliged to fill for the opening evening – they can easily roll the season with that lock vacant and wait to make a movement later.

Yet a handful of players will fight to prove that they earn it. Malevy Leons and Chris Youngblood seem to have the inside of the camp. Leons spent last season with the G League Blue and has familiar with the organization, while Youngblood shoved the attention in the NBA Summer League and his university career in Alabama ended as a dynamic scorer. The two seem to be the front runners, but they are not the only names in the mix. Training camp will go a long way to determine if OKC fills that last place and who will arise when they do.

Which bank pieces climb the order?

The rotation of the Thunder is stacked and Mark Daigneault is not shy to go deep. Everyone on the 15-man selection plus the two-way boys get opportunities. But when the games matter, the pecking order becomes tighter. Every year there is natural fluctuation in the hierarchy, and even within a few seasonal rolls can shift quickly.

The question is who made an important leap this summer. Despite the shorter low season after playing in June, there is always at least one player who is noticeable. Aaron Wiggins has continued to achieve a greater role every year and could take another step. Cason Wallace has already become a top six or seven player in the rotation and can be trending in the direction of a role of the caliber or at least a sixth man who plays for minutes at the starting level. Camp and preseason give us the first glance to who the ladder climbs in 2025-26.

Can Chet Holmgren make offensive jump?

In the same spirit, the growth of Chet Holmgren could be the biggest swing factor for Oklahoma City this season. He is already one of the five best defenders in basketball, but if he can become offensive, we are talking about an NBA All-Star and an all-NBA player for the coming years today.

Much of this depends on health, conditioning and rhythm after missing the time last year, but the Thunder believes that there is really unused. If Holmgren, his form of attack before the injury is regained, or better, this changes the entire ceiling of this team. His jump would not only solidify his personal rise, but could also be the difference in OKC’s offer to repeat as champions.

Although the majority of the training camp is not available for the public and the preseason competitions, this is not included for the rankings, this is an important time of the year for teams in the competition, even for a reigning champion.
