Oilers place Noah Philp on LTIR and recall hard-hitting Connor Clattenburg

The The Edmonton Oilers have announced this On Friday, that forward Noah Philp was placed on long-term injured reserve, prompting the team to recall rugged winger Connor Clattenburg from the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors. It’s a tough break for Philp as he tried to hold down a regular spot in the lineup, but it’s an opportunity for Clattenburgh, who brings a ton of energy to an Oilers team that has lacked that of late.

Philp, who scored two goals and one assist in fifteen games this season, is now sidelined indefinitely. The Oilers have not disclosed the nature of the injury, but an LTIR designation suggests this is more than a minor setback.

To fill the roster spot, Edmonton turned to one of its most physical prospects. Clattenburg, a fifth-round pick in 2024, has made his presence felt in the AHL with 59 penalty minutes, one goal and one assist in 15 games. Known much more for his edge than his scoring touch, the 20-year-old brings a “loud game” as Oilers Now host Bob Stauffer describedadding that the former Flint Firebirds captain “hits everything that moves.”

Noah Philp Oilers Preseason

With the Oilers coming off a grueling game in Tampa and preparing to conclude their seven-game road trip Saturday in Florida, Clattenburg’s arrival could inject some much-needed energy into a struggling lineup. If he plays or performs as an extra forward, it will be worth watching.

For a team struggling with inconsistency and searching for identity, the timing could be right for a player built to shake things up.
