Days after an agreement was reached for the termination of his contract, FC Barcelona finally issued a statement in which the departure of Oriol Romeu of the club is confirmed.
“FC Barcelona and first team player Oriol Romeu have agreed to end his contract with the club within the transfer window,” read the statement.
“FC Barcelona wants to thank Oriol Romeu for its professionalism, dedication and dedication, and wishes him good luck and success in the future.”
Romeu came to Barcelona in the summer of 2023 and arrived for a small fee from Girona. A product of The MasiaThe midfielder returned to the club after more than a decade and started well under Xavi Hernandez.

Over time, however, Romeu lost his fame in the team and soon got out of favor, before he was lent to Girona in 2024 after the arrival of Hansi Flick.
When returning to the club this summer, it was made clear to the experienced midfielder that he was not part of the plans and was also omitted from the pre-season Tour through Asia.
And with another year left on his contract, an agreement was eventually reached for the termination, in which Barcelona corresponded to cover part of his wages.
Romeu’s exit helped Barcelona to clean up the salary space, allowing the club to complete the most important registrations in La Liga.
The experienced midfielder is now a free agent and is still seen where he ends up.
