There has been an official injury update from Newcastle United following the win over Spurs.
United dominated and should have won by a few more goals, as Tottenham were fortunate to only lose 2-1 at home.
Malick Thiaw and Jacob Ramsey with the goals, while a ridiculous VAR decision denied Joe Willock his ‘goal’.
Attention now turns to Saturday and Aston Villa in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
The only real negative last night was the sight of Bruno Guimaraes being forced off the pitch in obvious pain late in the match.
Eddie Howe provides this official Newcastle United injury update after the match.
Eddie Howe asked about Bruno Guimaraes: “He’s a bit worried. He’s never had any problems with his hamstring before. So was it a cramp? Was it a muscle problem? It feels more like an injury to me. But let’s see and try to stay positive at the moment. I just hope we haven’t lost Bruno, that would be the real downside of the evening.”
Ahead of the Spurs game, Eddie Howe had confirmed that Joelinton was not yet ready, but that there was a chance that Anthony Gordon and/or Lewis Miley could be back for Tuesday’s game depending on how they looked in training on Monday.
In that case, Anthony Gordon could start the match. However, Lewis Miley (and Joelinton) are both missing from the matchday squad.
Eddy Howe: “We miss him (Lewis Miley) very much. He is a big player for us, the same goes for Joelinton. Two high-level players in midfield. Moreover, of course, we have often spoken about the defensive injuries we have had this season.”
In addition to Miley and Joelinton, players such as Schar, Krafth and Livramento were missing for the match against Spurs.
The last thing Eddie Howe needs is any additional injuries, none more so than his talismanic captain Bruno Guimaraes.
I hope it turns out to be just a minor scare.
