Look, no one wants a facial injury, but for hoopers at risk of reaching, the only upside is that you can score instant aura points by sporting a protective mask and literally looking like Batman on the field. Rip Hamilton, Kobe Bryant, Russell Westbrook and LeBron James are just a few of the names that have a “masked era,” with LeBron even doing it twice, once during his first Cavs run and again with the Miami Heat.
The “Masked Menace” LeBron 23 features an all-black colorway similar to the mask he wore during his five-game masked run with the Heat in 2014, in which he broke the Miami single-game scoring record, as well as his own career high, with 61 points in a win over the Charlotte Bobcats at home. LeBron actually wore a clear mask that day instead of a black one, but most who remember the run will tell you that the black version was undeniably harder. The defining detail is on the heel, where LeBron’s crown logo appears with eyelet cutouts that resemble the mask.
Official images of the grade school LeBron 23 “Masked Menace” have now surfaced, showing black carbon fiber on the crown. This is different from the adult version we broke down last December which appears to have a matte finish. Even further back, Anthony Davis was spotted in a similar all-black LeBron 23 prior to the model’s debut. It’s possible that both the matte and carbon fiber styles will hit shelves, but we’ll have to see official images of the adult SKU to know for sure.
The Nike LeBron 23 “Masked Menace” is expected to be available in Adult and GS sizes in March 2026, retailing at $210 USD for adults. Check out the official images of the GS version below while we wait for more information.
