Nottingham Forest sacked Ange Postecoglou on Saturday after his five Premier League games yielded one point.
Now the club’s owner has appointed a new new manager, their third of the season.
An official announcement at Nottingham Forest (see below) on Tuesday morning revealed that Sean Dyche has, as expected, taken the job.
Ange Postecoglou’s sacking made Premier League history, with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis sacking Ange Postecoglou just 39 days after giving him the job, a new Premier League-era record for a permanent managerial appointment that lasted so short a time.
Nuno Espirito Santo played just three Premier League games of the season and was sacked after scoring four points in three PL games.
Sky Sports had reported after the second sacking of the season that the huge additional costs resulting from sacking Nuno and his back-up staff AND the same goes for Ange Postecoglou and his back-up staff, meant that due to PSR concerns, Nottingham Forest had to look for a currently unemployed manager where they would not have to pay compensation…
A sticking point in the negotiations is said to be that the owner of Nottingham Forest wanted Sean Dyche to do a very short-term deal. However, the former Burnley and Everton boss said he had pushed for a longer contract.
In the end he was given around 20 months, with a contract with Nottingham Forest running until the summer of 2027.
What do you think the chances are that Sean Dyche will keep that up until the end…?
Nottingham Forest official announcement – October 21, 2025:
‘Nottingham Forest are delighted to confirm the appointment of Sean Dyche as the club’s new Head Coach, following a thorough recruitment process led by Global Head of Football, Edu Gaspar, and Global Technical Director, George Syrianos.
The former Forest youth player joins the Club on a contract lasting until the summer of 2027 and will take charge of his first match on Thursday evening when the Reds take on FC Porto in the Europa League.
Dyche will be joined by his experienced coaching team of Ian Woan and Steve Stone – both former Nottingham Forest players who between them made more than 400 appearances for the Reds in the 1990s.
As a respected and experienced Premier League manager, Dyche brings the perfect mix of character, tactical insight and proven performance to guide the club through its next chapter.
Having managed more than 330 Premier League games in his career to date, Dyche has built teams characterized by defensive organisation, resilience and strength from set pieces – qualities that closely reflect the characteristics of the current squad and the Club’s football identity.
As a former Forest youth player who lives locally, Dyche also has a deep understanding of the values and pride of Forest and its supporters. “With his character, tactical acumen and man-management skills, his appointment represents the best opportunity for a successful and competitive season in both domestic and European competitions.”
