A young man from Odisha died of electrocution during a visit to his girlfriend’s home, an incident now under police investigation after the victim’s family had claimed cheat.
The victim, identified as Biswajit Beua, had started to meet to meet his girlfriend after her invitation. He reportedly jumped across the border wall to enter the building, came into contact with an electric wire and immediately collapsed. Family members brought him to the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The case took a serious turn when the Biswajit family accused the family members of the girlfriend of involvement in his death and submitted a formal complaint to the Sadar police. The superintendent of the police confirmed that a case was registered under number 403 and that an investigation is underway. “Based on provisional information, the electrocution seems to be, but the investigation will determine the exact cause of death. The incident took place late on 28 September, although the victim’s family lodged a complaint about murder,” said the SP.
Trilochan Beuera, the grandfather of Biswajit, said that the young man had initially asked a friend to accompany him, but only went after the friend refused. After he had received a phone call from his girlfriend about a crowd behind her house, the friend rushed to the location and found Biswajit lying on agricultural land, entangled in an electric thread. The friend also suffered electrocution while trying to help.
The grandfather claimed that his grandson had been lured to the house and demanded justice on his behalf. The police are investigating the circumstances concerning the incident and further investigation is underway.
