Rainy Sunday Sunday. Well, I’m not sure if it will be a very rainy day, but it has been raining for several days and it continues to rain at night, making the world feel cool and clean (well, and muddy) every morning, which is really quite beautiful. It’s perfect weather to stay indoors, watch the many TV shows and movies you can find in my weekend streaming guide – and solve puzzles. Let’s solve today’s Beaches!

How to play strands
Strands is the newest game in the New York Times puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Each day we are given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that covers two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which moves from one side of the grid to the other and reveals even more about the theme of the day.
Spoilers ahead.

I’ve played a few. HEARTS I played and SPADES, and these are the first two words I found, which led me to look for CLUBS and DIAMONDS (sadly, neither was there). I’ve also played PINOCHLE and I’ve heard of BRIDGE, but never took the plunge. I would like to someday. However, I hadn’t even heard of EUCHRE or WHIST, which reminds us that even though I play many games and many types of games: “There are more things in heaven and on earth, Horatio, than are dreamed of in your philosophy.” I found the spangram last: TRICKTAKING, since these are all card games where you perform a trick. But no treats.
