The midfielder was handed a one-match ban after receiving two bookings for dissent during Hammer’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at the London Stadium on Sunday.
Paqueta subsequently said on social media that he continues to be punished and hit with accusations of spot-fixing violations, for which he was found not guilty by an independent regulatory commission.
“It is ridiculous to let your life and career be affected for two years without any psychological support from the federation,” he wrote on X.
“Maybe this ridiculous behavior is just a reflection of everything I’ve had to endure and, it seems, have to continue to endure! I’m sorry if I’m not perfect.”
Nuno confirms that Paqueta will play for West Ham against Brighton
Earlier this week, Nuno revealed that Paqueta apologized to the team for his behavior, adding that the player is “suffering”, “disappointed and upset”. Despite his personal problems, the West Ham manager says Paqueta will be straight back into the fold when they travel to Brighton next Sunday.
“Yes. He will play,” the Portuguese coach said during the pre-match press conference on Friday.
“I have already spoken about that. It is in the past. I am convinced that it will not happen again because he has personally admitted his mistake. We talked about it in the dressing room. I am convinced that it is over and that it will not repeat itself.”
West Ham have lost just one of their last five Premier League games but find themselves in the bottom three after Leeds United’s shock win over Chelsea in midweek.
“We can’t avoid it. It’s a reality. We have to face it. We’re fighting to survive. We can’t hide it. We can’t control the results of other teams. It’s up to us.”
