NTWAB, the Jockey Club to co-finance media internships

The National Turf Writers and Broadcasters, with matching financial support from The Jockey Club, have agreed to support a record nine internship applications to horse racing media outlets in 2026, by far the largest group funded since the program’s inception in 2023.

The NTWAB Internship Committee approved co-financing internships at The Saratoga Special, BloodHorse, Daily Racing Form, the New York Racing Association’s television production with FOX with Saratoga Live, Maryland Horse Breeders and its affiliated publications, NBC, Horse Racing Happy Hour, Paulick Report and Agentes 305.

The NTWAB Internship Support Initiative was launched to help offset budget pressures across print, digital and broadcast organizations and to support both workforce development in racing journalism and the immediate staffing needs of media organizations covering the sport. Together, the National Turf Writers Association Charitable Foundation and The Jockey Club have committed approximately $24,000 toward the 2026 internships, with each organization authorizing up to $12,000 in matching funds.

The NTWAB and The Jockey Club will jointly reimburse up to half of the internship wage costs and associated establishment costs, up to a maximum of $3,000.

“This program does exactly what it was intended to do: help media outlets with staffing while providing students interested in equine journalism with paid opportunities and a path to full-time employment after graduation,” said NTWAB President Byron King. “We are grateful to The Jockey Club for their financial support and commitment to fostering the next generation of talent in equine journalism.”

“The Jockey Club fully supports the advancement of aspiring journalists and media personnel in horse racing, and we are grateful to the NTWAB for partnering with us on this initiative,” said James L. Gagliano, president and COO of The Jockey Club.

The NTWAB will assist participating outlets in publicizing links to internship opportunities as positions become available. Prospective interns and media organizations interested in participating in future years are encouraged to monitor ntwab.org and follow @NTWAB on X for additional details.
